Rushed campaign. Not even a single side mission. Endgame is the same level over and over again, its not even randomized. Theres no point in doing expeditions anymore because the gear you get is garbage so you have no choice but to do trials of Tarya Gratar which gets boring after you've done it 20 times with each character. Build diversity is good but your Apocalypse tiers progress so slow, they just did this to increase playtime. I dont mind grinding in a looter shooter as long as the grind is at least kinda fun. Doing the exact same mission over and over again is not fun. So not worth 40$

Funny but buggy as hell. Constant crashes and my peener getting stuck outside the map making me restart. Still funny tho once you get through the buggy parts. 7/10

Although It's a very fun and wholesome game that got me through some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ times, there some game breaking glitches that will halt your progress. I got stuck at the Gulp bossfight where the pterodactyls stopped bringing the eggs that will give you items you can use to defeat gulp which is the boss you NEED to defeat to progress to the next area. I was going for all achievements and was having a lot of fun but now that I cant progress at all, I'm just gonna give up and move on. It was still fun for the 20 hours that I played but I wouldn't recommend it to completionists.

Trash game wish I could refund

Been following the game since it was a demo on itch.io. It's come a long way. Proud to be one of the OG supporters..

First of all, let's not ignore the many bugs this game has.
1) Random crashes when you open any menu.
2) There's an option to add friends in-game but it may or may not work. Me and my friend added each other multiple times and I showed up in his friend list but he didn't show up in mine.
3) Random connection errors, even though both of our connection is fine and we're still talking on discord. Have to join each other 2-3 times before it finally gives us a stable server.
4) A weird bug where the sound of enemy bullets disappears and you cant hear them shoot. You only see your health slowly go down. It lasts the whole play session so you have to quit out and load back in
5) Abilities randomly glitch and stop working. The cooldown starts the but the ability doesnt work. The bug lasts the whole play session you you have to quit and restart.
6) Game keeps running in the background for quite a while even after you exit to desktop. So if you wanna restart immediately you have to end it in the task manager.

Honestly, This many bugs so many months after launch is unacceptable. So why am I recommending this game?

Because it's fun as hell. Despite all the bugs me and my friend played for 8 hours on day 1. It's still a solid looter-shooter. The gameplay is fast paced and always keeps you on your toes. The bugs really make it frustrating but there's still a great game here and I do think people who like the genre will enjoy it.

Edit: I reviewed the base game positively and recommended it. Now I'm changing my review after the Worldslayer update. They released an overpriced low content dlc then essentially abandoned the game.Absolute newbie devs keep giving excuses that they can't code basic stuff. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY. They don't deserve it.

As someone who disliked the roguelike genre in general, this is the game that made me reconsider my opinion of them. The main thing I dislike about roguelikes is a lack of overall progression and thankfully this game doesnt have that. It has an amazing story and it's slowly revealed to you through beautifully animated cutscenes that you're rewarded with after every run.

In the beginning it felt like a cliched "Darkness/Corruption is spreading and we have to fight it back" but boy oh boy was I wrong. The story is so well written and delivered. And it gets real, like for real real. It tackles tough topics like death, loss and grief and it does it well. Some scenes literally gave me goosebumps.

I've always been a sucker for good pixel art and this game is beautiful. The gameplay is also smooth af and varied enough to keep it interesting. You don't play as a single character but can choose to play as any member of the Bergson family, each with unique weapons, skills and playstyles.

There is also a shared skill system which means leveling up one member of the family gives a passive boost to the other members as well so it incentivizes you to play different characters instead of just picking a character you enjoy and finishing the whole game with them. Even John (the boring sword+shield guy you start with) gets really interesting as you unlock more of his abilities.

The 3 main regions of the game are unique and well designed and enemy variety is also pretty good. You can also run into special events in the dungeons or even run into another member of the Bergson family and help them out with a small sidequest. Little things like that make each run feel unique.

As for the game length, I finished the main story in a little under 20 hours. The game also has a family trials game mode which is the the true "Roguelike mode" and that's why I personally didnt enjoy it much but is a great place to spend more time with these characters you've grown to love during the main story when you're done with it. But 20 hours of play time for the main story was well worth every penny I spent on this game.

I'd highly recommend this game even to people who weren't fans of the roguelike genre like moi.

the game refuses to work in fullscreen mode

The camera shake makes me nauseated and there's no way to turn it off. Couldn't even get myself to play for 10 mins.
