Metro 2033 is a great and atmospheric game based on books of Dmitry Glukhovsky telling a story of humanity sheltered under the ground of moscow in long forgotten tunels of Metro after a "war that ended all wars" or World War 3. Redux version of this game was supposed to bring game to new clothes, and it damn did. Game looks grim and dirty, altough lighting here and there was more fitting to vanilla version of metro 2033.

I will try to keep this segment rather short. We are playing as Artyom Alekseyevich, an ordinary guy from the station of Exhibition. Our home station is being threatened with the attack of dark ones, a creatures far stronger, intelligent and versitile than humans. We are leaving for a mission: Get to the Polis to ask rangers (spartans) to help defend station from the dark ones. We are meeting many great characters, visitng many stunning locations: Big stations, abandoned stations, even the surface of the moscow itself. Every place is intresting, every enemy, monster or human feel like they have their place in the world of the game. Every kid has a story (like kid and dad waiting for their mother that has died). The story is since the very beggining carrying this feel of anxiety in itself. You are genuiely wondering where will you go next, what will happen with each step, and ultimately: Are we doing the right thing? Even tough the story is a masterpiece, I have one major complaint about it: The endings. When the endings in itself are a great way to finish the story, a way to obtain the alternative "good" ending is just not worth the effort, considering it doesn't affect next game (Metro Last Light) in the slightest. You will be better of watching it on youtube, considering it is not canon ending. It requires you to do small details you would have miss otherwise so... just forget about it.

There is not much I can talk about in this segment. The game looks absolutely great. The locations are atmospheric and filled with details, every location feels unique and abandoned. Even tough some of the aspects with lighting were better in 2033 (it was darker overall) the game is looking much much better. Optimalization is good as well.

Gameplay in metro 2033 is very tense. Its an FPS, so naturally we shot hordes of enemies, wheter humans or all sort of monsters. What differs this game from others is the shortages of supplies we have. Ammunition we are operating is used as a killing material, aswell as currency (unless you save it up). We really closely need to watch on our gas mask usage, especially outside. If our gasmask filter runs out before a mission with requirement of gasmask to use, we are pretty much ♥♥♥♥♥♥, and need to redo the whole chapter (I am looking at you D6). Military grade bullets are stronger, allowing you to take down your opponent with 2-3 shots, but they are also currency- you have to chose wheter to use the bullets when you run out of standard ones, or save them up to buy new weapon later on. Gunplay is spot on. Every gun feels diffrent in each way, and shooting is just a pleasure. There is a system of weapon custimization which greatly helps. You can always find already modified weapons in the world or on enemies, and then trade them up for something you like, or sell it completly. Stealth is also very functional, moving in shadows, taking lights out. Problem with stealth in this game is that its sometimes hard to determine wheter enemy will spot you or not, and if you were already spoted. Other than that, its a pleasure to play.

In conclusion, metro 2033 redux is a great game. Only few years after its release I picked up on it, and it was worth every minute. The story, characters, environment, everything keeps you tense. My only complaints:
-Endings doesnt affect next game
-♥♥♥♥ library mission

Metro 2033 redux gets a whole bullet out of gasmask.

Thanks for reading, and cheers!

The soundtrack and aesthetics are cool as hell! Lovely. I mean, I heard there is some gameplay or something, but its just looped endless drive. Its cheap, just grab it and take cards!

I can confidently say its the best far cry in the series. Its flawed, but it has something in it, something I didn't find in any other.

[That sure is a lot of words, too bad I am not reading them.]

Game good. Look good. Play cool. Story Dumb but good enough. Gameplay has it's ups and downs.

Genuinely enjoyed the game. Anything from world, graphics, gameplay, amount of (meaningful) content, and overall package has left me really happy with my time spent with the game.

Graphics, world design, atmosphere, tone and feeling of the game are unrivaled.
Taking a walk around these stunning Bolivian landscapes is a factor motivating me to play this game more even after finishing it. World not only looks really believable, it feels like it. It's not as alive as it could have been, which it suffers from it a lot at times, I would consider it to be good enough given GRW was Ghost Recons reboot title. The game keeps it's tone fairly consistent. It's not gloomy or depressing, but it's not wacky or clowny either. Most humour comes from chats between your team members, which is quite enjoyable and doesn't spoil the tone of the game (which tackles drugs, murders, kidnappings, human trafficing, slavery, to name a few. Sadly, it tackles a lot of them in a very shallow and safe way).

Ambient audio is fantastic, and music extremely satisfying (although I felt the lack of more memorable combat music).
Voice acting on the other hand is a mixed bag. While Ghost squad and Bowman are nice to listen to, everyone else has the classic Ubisoft's xbox 360 microphone quality.
Sometimes, game has made me mute music completely, simply so I can walk through jungles or mountain tops or savannahs and enjoy the ambient sound of the world.

Core gameplay is a "ubisoft formula" of an open world. Albeit repetitive, and generic at times, with lots of meaningless blips on the map to do, I did enjoy it all things considered. It was a perfect game to kick back and scratch that "tacticool" itch of feeling like a spec ops badass killing anything in their way. Biggest issue gameplay wise other than repetitiveness of missions is certainly content bloat. The game offers A LOT, on paper, but most of that content is mind numbing, boring generetative content that doesn't bring in anything interesting to the table. It was clearly in there only to stretch out game duration, and was a bane of Ubisofts game design for years to come.

The gameplay wears you off, however. It is worth noting I didn't finish this game "in one sitting". I think that it's a perfect game to come back to after few months to get that itch of exploring vast open world, and running around shooting enemies, especially considering you don't really have a story to follow.
When it comes to interacting with the world, movement, operating gun and cover system works really well and is intuitive. Movement is weighty, meaty, and for the most part you feel like you're a running blob of flesh, and not a capsule with artificial camera attached to it. Vehicles are a completely different story. Every car feels like it's light like a plastic toy, and physics on them are extremely exaggerated. Helicopters and plane controls feel almost like they were an afterthought. Animations are really well made, and make everything seem fluid and on point.

Gunplay was serviceable enough to make me want to pursue exploring map for guns that I am interested with and mods to kit them out. Customisation of both ghosts and their weapons was quite surprisingly complex given the time.

Story was serviceable at best, it was there only to push the player around provinces. I really liked the concept of taking on a cartel, very real and mostly overlooked conflict today, and undermining drug empire. I enjoyed how grounded and somewhat realistic the story was *trying* to be, and I think with a proper effort they could've made something really interesting here. However, for what it was, only a handful of stories, or "buchons" really picked my interest enough to make me read about them more. 90% of them you won't be able to remember as soon as you turn off the game. (except Nidias huge assets.)
