I love this game and can't believe it's already free to play. I just upgraded to the Legendary bundle because I've gotten my money's worth already.

I played Predecessor a little bit a year ago but put it down to let it cook a little before coming back. It's been my main game for the last month. I love the fact that you control your character with WASD like an FPS/Third Person Shooter. It makes it more exciting and more engaging than a traditional MOBA.

I am not a MOBA player, I come from FPS's so this was a perfect meld between the two. I didn't play the old paragon either so I didn't come in expecting anything. I'm happy with the core game and the only thing I really want is better AI for the "Player vs. AI" game mode and more heroes with seasonal hero/item balances. I hope to see hero balances like OW/VAL where certain non-viable heroes become viable with balance changes.

The game feels very balanced - especially when you start learning how to build your items out and how to play certain heroes.

It's free to play? Why not try it out?

A beautiful mixture of teamwork, skill, strategy, and difficulty with a tiny dash of systems management to give it depth.

I'll be honest... this is the game my friends and I needed right now. This is a fantastic Early Access game with so much content in it already. I've played dozens and dozens of EA games, this one is probably top 5 or 10 for me. I can't wait to see where it is at 1.0 launch and I am here for the ride.

There are 3 different regions/areas (2 you have to unlock by playing), you level up your player, unlock new variations of 2 ships (different guns, etc.), unlock modifications/components, and have skill points you can use. Once you get to the harder difficulties, you really need to start planning things out better and thinking more. The game's pacing is great. Once you start to think it's too easy, you unlock the second area and the second difficulty. There are 4 difficulties in total. I have only gotten to the second one. Difficulties = harder enemies and more experience. Experience is important because you unlock new components and ship variations.

I usually play with 3 or 4 people. In the harder difficulties, you'll have to split up ship duties, and during fights you'll be running all over the place always keeping busy trying to manage your time. The game gets really intense once you get to the 2nd area and 2nd difficulty. It's fantastic. There are little things you learn along the way that will help you in battles as well. Thing's I'm just scratching the surface of.

Some of the player animations are a little janky with the character but it's not a big deal. The important stuff like the ships, space, fighting, etc. are all done so well. Also dev's if you're reading this please allow us to jump like 3 to 4 times higher, I know we barely jump in the game but I want to jump higher than an inch off the ground haha.

It's just been a total blast with friends and the difficulty where I am at right now is perfect. If this game gets 1 more year of development it will be a must buy BUT you should buy it right now to support the developers on an already awesome game. Well done devs, thanks for making this game! 👏

New review (June 7th 2021):

I'm tired so this will be brief. Games got some great updates, all that it needs is the story to be extrapolated. I feel like this game will the Raft 2.0 I'll come back once a year to a huge amount of content/story to play. I'm looking forward to it. In 1-2 years this game will be absolutely amazing I feel. It's already really good and worth the money. It's a bit too sandboxy right now in regards to lack of story. There is some story but not much - the roadmap shows that the devs are working on more of the story set to release later this year 2021.

Old release review below:

This game is really awesome but broken for PC multiplayer right now. The issue is everyone who is not the host gets disconnected repeatedly and there are some major crashes that will happen even for the host sometimes when performing certain actions like cooking. I've seen a lot of people playing multiplayer just fine but they are almost always on console.

The disconnects get to be pretty unbearable and unplayable with people disconnecting within seconds to minutes of getting in the game. The longest runs we had are off fresh saves but then it starts happening after about an hour.

We were so desperate we tried changing hosts which means you have to start over with a new save. It kept happening to all four of us. People in our twitch chat told us that apparently the PC version of the game was broken for multiplayer and that they had similar experiences.

Great game otherwise, I really want to play it but I can't recommend it right now. I will update this to recommended when PC multiplayer gets fixed.

100+ hours in Beta testing. I love this game now, but I didn't at first...

I found the game first at Twitch Con 2019 and I wasn't really impressed at first. I got a couple beta codes and gave some to my friends. I started playing and I wasn't too impressed at first but I love giving indie devs a shot.

After putting about 2 hours into the game and playing against a variety of skill levels the game's potential really started to shine. This game is 3D 200iq Chess... it is just so satisfying and getting kills feels so good.

Overview

Quantum League is a very unique game. The game consists of 3 rounds (called loops). Each round it records what you did exactly (moving shooting etc.). The next loop, it will have a bot do exactly what you did. The third loop matters most. You must be on the middle point, completely clear of enemies, at the end to cap. There is lots of strategy, you can work with your bots and save them, etc. Time management is the biggest issue for new players.

Tips n' Tricks

At around 5-7 seconds remaining in the round you need to move to the middle objective (the only objective). This is the biggest issue for new players. They get hyper focused on fighting and forget about the objective. Time management is key.

When you get killed you are "desynced" and you can still play like your alive but do no damage. The next round (or loop) you can try and save yourself from dying in the previous round (loop). If you save the bot that is playing as you, it will perform the actions you did while dead "desynced".
Example:

Loop 1 - You die/desync to the opponent 10 seconds into the round but keep shooting and go to the middle point

Loop 2 - You kill the opponents Clone 1 from Loop 1 8 seconds into the round BEFORE his Clone 1 can kill your Clone 1. You change history. Your Clone 1 from Loop 1 does not die this time and performs the actions you performed while dead/desynced in Loop 1.

There are three loops per cycle. On the third loop, you must be on the middle point and have the middle point completely clear of enemies. If you aren't on the middle point, you failed to play the objective!

You can grab medkits to revive when desynced but don't waste them as they only respawn after the full cycle is complete! I only grab medkits if it's the final loop or I die early. If I see my opponent get a medkit late in the loop, the next loop I'll grab the medkit before he can to deny his clone's respawn.

4000 hours of Insurgency Source, 600 hours of Sandstorm...Undefeated team in Division 1 for the first Competitive Season of Sandstorm

Since 2014, I have primarily only played Insurgency. Through its ups and downs. If you are interested about competitive check out The Digital Gaming League on youtube/google/twitch. Comp scene isn't huge but it's growing!

Sandstorm is the sequel of Insurgency Source (trilogy if you count the Source Mod) and does a lot right and some things wrong. What NWI has always done is work closely with the community and put A LOT of free updates out for years after they release their product.

A lot of reviews here complain about the devs not being around but I see them respond to people everyday... those people not seeing that should be more active or use social media more :)

I can't defend NWI for not releasing a patch for 2 months after their official release, that was short sighted, but for the past 3 weeks they have released 3 patches so they are back on track! They also released a statement about that so they know they goofed up, but we're all human and make mistakes (I definitely have made my fair share haha).

Remember steam's refund policy... you can buy the game, play it for less than 2 hours, and refund it if you've owned it for less than 2 weeks. Don't listen to the naysayers, try it for yourself. :)

Overview

The game has had some rough parts on release but I feel like NWI is picking it back up again and doing a great job. I trust them. I am in this for the long run and I think the game is at an okay spot right now. I think in 2 months this game is going to be good and in 3-4 months it will be great. If you're afraid to pick it up, definitely pick it up on a sale. The game is definitely worth 20-25 dollars at it's current state.

You are going to want a good PC for this game and don't try running it higher than 1920x1080 (results may vary). You are going to want to have the recommended specs, not the minimum. I know some people with the minimum specs who are getting great FPS and some that are not so results really do vary. You can always try the game for less than 2 hours and refund it if you've owned it for less than 2 weeks.

PUBG and Squad are on the unreal engine and they had issues with optimization for about a year. I expect we will see the same here (I think it's just an engine thing - it is hard to fix). I do not suffer from any graphical issues really and I am getting 100-160 FPS with an 8700k, 980, 16 gb DDR4, SSD on all low settings, 1920x1080 (I always play on low bc I am a comp player).

Firefight and competitive are better overall in Sandstorm than Source. Firefight just has so much strategy and depth to it at the highest competitive level - it is truly a beautiful game mode. May be a little frustrating in public servers with teammates who are not experienced though.

The only thing I really miss is the close quarters combat fights from source. Sandstorm has a more open layout, and while it isn't bad, I would like to see a few maps that are styled more like the source maps.

The open maps do water down the gameplay for Skirmish and Push. There is much more running and less chaotic action. Push isn't AS bad, but Skirmish is pretty boring in Sandstorm compared to Source.

Vehicles don't really make a difference in Sandstorm and the vehicle is just a pick up truck with a mounted machine gun or no machine gun (transport only).

Coop is extremely better in Sandstorm. The AI is way better and actually challenging sometimes. Some people complain about the AI being way too good but those players probably aren't that good to be honest (sorry!).

Shooting is okay in Sandstorm. In the beginning, they had stamina and suppression sway that really messed with your aim. They have dialed it back but it is still there and still a little annoying. Because of the sway and higher TTK, the game is a bit more spray and pray than in Source. In Source, you could quickly one tap or two tap someone and move onto the next target. It's not THAT bad anymore but still more noticeable than in Source.

Commander/Observer stuff from DOI are cool, they make Push/Skirmish intense when I play it.

If you're on the fence, just wait for a sale - I am sure there will be one within 1-2 months. :)

And now for the breakdown...

Game Modes

  1. Push

Same as Source. 16v16. One team attacks. One team defends. Defenders have 15 waves. The attackers start with 5 waves but each time they capture an objective they get more waves. You respawn after a certain number of your team are dead. You fight for each objective one at a time in a linear fashion. After an objective is captured it is permanently captured and the objective positions moves on.

Attackers get a vehicle now that is a pickup truck with a mounted MG with a shield. The vehicles are not OP at all and actually more like a death trap because everyone focus fires it.

  2. Skirmish

Same as source. 16v16. Much more open than source. Each team gets one pick up truck with a mounted machine gun. As you cap you get more waves. Same respawn mechanics as Push. If you destroy the cache then the waves deplete over time. Best tactic is just to blow up the enemy's cache as soon as possible to bleed out their waves.

  3. Firefight

So good... Firefight is so fresh. Firefight is the competitive mode for Insurgency Source and Sandstorm. It is a one life to live with respawns objective based mode. When you capture an objective you respawn your dead teammates at the exact moment you capture. There is a lot of strategy at the high level as both teams have to balance defending and attacking. Three objectives in total: 1 for Security, 1 for Insurgents and 1 is neutral. You do not respawn until an objective is captured. This also makes it one of the more frustrating game modes because if you die you have to wait and if your teammates are bad you could be waiting awhile.

At a competitive level, it's fresh and different. The game mode is dynamic. Teamwork and strategy are so important at the top level.

  4. TDM

New. Fresh. Great for warming up, but I don't really play it at all after about an hour or two of it.

Maps

As far as maps go, I enjoy about 70-80% of the maps.

I also really only play Firefight 95% of the time, all the time. For Firefight, I don't mind less defined lanes but some people do. I think that firefight in Sandstorm requires A LOT more teamwork to lock down lanes than Source did. In Source, you could get away with bad movement because the lanes were clearly defined. In Sandstorm, you have to be very careful when you rotate and it requires teamwork There is actually a little bit more game sense require in firefight sandstorm than in source

For coop, the maps are great.

For Skirmish, the maps are not as good as source. Some people like the more open maps for skirmish but really it just waters down the intensity. Many hardcore source skirmish players think it's not as great. In fact, I have not played Skirmish in months because of how boring I find it. The openness isn't as bad in Firefight because it is a more concentrated around objectives.

For Push, maps are alright. Some maps are boring. Again, really think the open maps make fights less intense. The saving grace here is that you are fighting for one point at a time which focuses the action. So... I guess I just argued against myself for Push but I do that a lot haha.

Weapons

There are more weapons in Sandstorm than there are in Insurgency Source and Day of Infamy. I'm not really a weapon nut. There is enough variety to keep most people happy. I'm a competitive player so I really only use 1-2 guns on each team. Meta guns.

My Review after 4 years of playing...

My review is below but here is a disclaimer:

People should do some research about BattlEye before they claim it's spyware. All anticheat software could be considered spyware by the way... you have to give to get ladies and gentlemen.

As someone else stated "No, BattlEye is NOT selling you porn logs to Walmart."

Also, if you're afraid of invasion of privacy, don't use any website ever or mobile app. Notice how the ads on Facebook change to whatever websites you've been visiting? Coincidence? I think not.

I've spent the last 4 years in this game... as with any game it has had its up's and down's. I created the league that would, at one point, encompass the entire world's Insurgency eSports play. To this day, I still love this game... I just wish people in regular public servers would play less scared and play the objective. I recommend this game and I recommend that you play the game fast (rushing) in the beginning to learn the maps and halfway points quickly. Too many people waste their time playing slow off spawn when the fight is halfway across the map. Watching someone crabwalk for 2 minutes just to have them never see an enemy and lose by being capped out on is detrimental to my mental health.

If you're a casual gamer who likes first person shooters, this game is well worth 10 dollars. Most people get this game for a dollar on humble bundle or another discount site. I think I spent over 150 dollars on this game by buying it for multiple people, etc. and I don't regret it. The game is intense and fun. There is also a decent coop scene for those who are afraid of getting rekt by people like me.

If you're looking for a heavily established comp scene where you can scrim 24/7, you may be disappointed... however there are competitive pick up games nearly every day and scrims every day during peak hours. This game is one of the best competitive games I have played in my 15 years of gaming and that's ranking against COD4, Tribes, and Overwatch. The competitive depth of the game is unreal in terms of strategy, map knowledge, rotations, etc. The meta is continuously evolving even after 2 years of established competitive play.

The game still to this day has a couple thousand people playing it at any given time... when I started playing this game in Alpha the only time there were players was when my team and I were playing. Fast forward 4 years later to today and it still has at least a thousand people playing during it's low population points.

The game is still alive and kicking.

They did announce their sequel to this game over a year ago. Insurgency: Sandstorm will be a brand new game at a much higher price and on the unreal engine. It will have projectile based bullets (bullet drop) and light vehicles plus a story line with coop. Because Sandstorm is going to be at a higher price, it makes this game worth it even more in my eyes. Sandstorm won't be released until sometime in 2018, so you casual gamers can easily get 10-20 hours out of this game in that time which will be 50 cents to 1 dollar an hour of entertainment.

Last bit of advice...

Pay attention to the reddit - www.reddit.com/r/insurgency

A lot of questions you have are answered there, just use the search function

If you want to see some high level Insurgency play... here's an old shoutcasted match.

Hello plz, a lot of people reviewing this game have played games like it, that's not me.

TL;DR Competitive FPS player, thought the game was meh, saw a million friends playing it, bought the game, lost my life. The game is SUPER in depth, there's so much side stuff you can do, there's so much. There's cooking, fishing (actually kinda difficult), exploring, fighting, events, quests, you can have a family, and other stuff I haven't even found yet. Multiplayer confirmed coming in a few months by developer after he partnered with a publisher.

The most important part for me is there is fighting and exploring, you don't actually have to farm ♥♥♥♥ - but you will not make that much money

I'm a competitive FPS player pouring thousands of hours into video games to compete in them. I saw A LOT of people playing this game on my friends list and looked it up. Seemed decent, I'm not really into single player games, I need human interaction. I do a lot of research about games before I buy them usually because I don't play multiple games at the same time. Apparently this game was made by one dude and a company offered him the opportunity to have them handle the console/mobile port + multiplayer set up. Back in May he said the game was going to have coop but it would take several months so I am hoping that by Christmas we have coop because this game on coop would be gg's.

This game is so ridiculous in the amount of content it has. The events are season oriented so you have to chose which one or two events you want to do while missing out on like 10 other things. This means that you nearly have to play for practically 10 years in game to do everything. For reference. I've played 10 hours in 24 hours and I'm in the middle of my second season (4 seasons in a year, duh you ninny). So probably roughly 30 hours per year? 300 hours to get a lot of the events done. The days go by seconds, 1 hour is 1 minute however the game pauses when you are in menus.

Some interesting info. No matter how much energy you have, you have to sleep everyday by 1:30ish AM or you pass out from exhaustion and you pay the doctor ~100 g for taking your dumbass back home, I... have done this multiple times. The doctor and I are good friends now. I one time passed out on my doorstep! I was so damn close to making it back inside. You wake up at 6 am everyday. The townspeople close their business at 4 PM so if you want to adventure out you should do so knowing you won't be able to buy ♥♥♥♥ that day. Seasons are 28 days long and the crop you planted during that season die over night because ♥♥♥♥ you. The people in the town suck except Penny, they don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about what you give them for gifts, if time goes by too long they forget you gave them the gift anyways. I tried to butter up Maru all week with gifts but she didn't give a ♥♥♥♥. I nicknamed her the honey badger. No one danced with me during the first flower festival, not even the dudes... it's a good thing I can't kill them because I would, then I'd destroy their homes and become CEO of Joja.

Oh and ♥♥♥♥ Alex... he's a douchebag, I'm fighting him first if we can fight townspeople.

There are mines which you can explore a lot. I started playing side by side someone who just did farming and I just did exploring. planted maybe 8 crops total and kept planting to make me some small cash flow. I'd explore the mines for 12-14 hours a day. My friend ended up catching up to me because they had soooooooo much money compared to me.

I was kind of reckless with what I sold and how I spent my money at first (mainly on strippers - jk you can't do that). For maximum exploration power in the mines, use salads from the saloon to give you health and energy AND use cherry bombs to destroy a lot of rocks at once. It speeds ♥♥♥♥ up greatly. If you die in the mines, you will "forget" 5-10 levels of the mine and lose some stuff. The first time I died, I lost EVERYTHING I had in my backpack. The game ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me sideways and didn't even buy me dinner first. I lost all my weapons, ore, sap, and cherry bombs. It took me 3 days to get back my ♥♥♥♥ just to die again. Good thing I have two monitors because I put a fist through one of them.

The game is SUPER in depth, there's so much side stuff you can do, there's so much. There's cooking, fishing, exploring, fighting, events, quests, and other stuff I haven't even found yet. Get the game... I'm thinking of easing myself back from playing so much though because I REALLY want to play this game coop.

Get the game. Do it. NOW!
