it's NOT for everyone.

It's a game for those who enjoy reading and following the story set in this pretty dystopian sci-fi universe. It's not packed with action, it's one of those games that let you follow a pretty well written story.

Treat this game as an interactive book with a few endings. It's great tale for a few evenings (or a couple of whole nights in my case) that you immerse yourself into, accompanied by a really good soundrtack.

As other mentioned in, the mechanics is pretty basic, not all choices really matter and it isn't a Dark Souls difficulty level game - as I said, it's a story, tale to follow and enjoy.

I finished it along with the first episode, done all "drives" etc in 16h total. I regret nothing, great tale and I crave more.

If you love games that tell a great story with characters that you root for and get attached to - this is it. I have no idea why this game is so underrated. With almost 30 years of experience playing computer games - this is one of the best stories I have experienced so far, up there with Witcher, Horizon: Zero Dawn. This is one of those games I call "interactive books", playing through it I just couldn't put it away as I wanted to constantly know where will the story take me next, what will happen next. Highly recommended.

Developers instead rewriting the network layer of the game, focus on adding planets / new blocks / features. The same bugs that were reported years ago still persist. Rotors, pistons, docking clang still happens and simulation speed is still sluggish if you have more than 5 people on the server. The game had amazing potential and was a brilliant promise of an interesting sandbox. Sadly it had never delivered.

Early Access Review
Me and few of my friends bought DayZ few days after it appeared on steam. We played for hours and hours, making friends, looting, being heroes/bandits depending on our mood. I really like the concept of this game - minimal controll over players, little boundaries - you can go anywhere, anytime, you decide whether you want to be a friend or enemy at any given moment. There is no "no kill zones", no clan halls, etc. DayZ is the first serious FPP sandbox that has the potential to become one of the greatest games of the decade. Yes, potential.

Why would I not recommend the game?

1. Developers focus on adding new content without fixing bugs that are well known and literally break the game. Yes it is Alpha, but it's been a year now and you still crash 10 times a day when exiting servers, your character still resets randomly, blurred vision still remains after some attacks and to remove it you have to go to Options-->Video settings every time.

2. Dean Hall left. A guy who created the game, took the money for it in Alpha stage, just left. Is this how it works? You promise something to someone, take the payment and half way through development you get bored/whatever happens - and you leave? Nope, people should be held accountable, if you take the money and decide you don't want to work on the project any more, you at least offer an option for the money back.

3. General Early Access "Sickness". Developers making promisses that they don't keep. Whole process is slower and less organised than it should be. The whole Early Access scheme has one massive flaw - human psychology. Think about it. If someone offers you a job to do, you have to build the house, you are a builder, you know how to do it. Now, think of two scenarios - in one you get the 10 million dollars after you finish the house and the person that moves is happy, in the other scenario you get money upfront.

In which case do you think, you will build the house better and quicker?
There is no incetive left few months down the line when you have already got paid.
