(SPOILER ALERT) This game is very enjoyable and features a bunch of changes that give it a nice refresh in comparison to Megadimension VII and the rest of the series. There are some small mechanical spoilers in the review, so be cautious while reading this if you're new to the game.

The environment is visually appealing, it's a clear upgrade from previous games in the series. It's graphically enhanced and looks much more polished visually. This is a bit resource heavy though, so you will need a fairly powerful system to run the game smoothly. There's not much to say in the field of graphics, is just looks strictly nicer.

A very key change is that the game has a much more linear storyline, featuring only a single ending. This is something the series is known to avoid quite often. It's a very similar take from the original Megadimension VII, (since it is a remaster) although the component of having only a single ending is quite a drastic change. This can be refreshing to some though, since very thoroughly looking through the game to meet prerequisites for all the different endings can seem like a chore sometimes. If you just want to have a nice remaster to play or don't want to do dig too deeply into Megadimension VII's alternate endings, I'd definitely recommend picking this game up.

Another large change is in the combat and dungeon crawling system. There a quite a lot, so I'll go over some of the basics. There's now a sprinting system, giving you the ability to quickly travel through dungeons. Some of them will require you to sprint for certain jumps, so be aware that you will eventually need to use it. There's also no longer an EXE guage, it has been removed and replaced with an Ability Point system. The previously EXE moves are also no longer massive power houses in comparison to the rest of the series. This change was mainly to balance out the system of normal and special attacks, since EXE moves were the primary form of damage for the earlier games and completely eclipsed normal attacks. They're still relevant attacks, but are no longer something you can repeatedly use as your sole damage source. There's a lot of extra diversity in normal attacks, which you are able to mix and match during combat. This is a nice change, but could have used a bit of extra polish, since the normal attack system is more complex and can cause a bit of delay when fighting weaker enemies. You are also healed upon the battle ending, so stressing over consumables and survivability after fights is practically gone. There are a lot of other changes I haven't mentioned due to review length, so make sure you read up on all the other changes, because there are A LOT of changes to the combat system.

Lastly, there is the VR and saving system. You now have a personal room that you can decorate and have the ability to visually interact with the Hyperdimension CPUs on an event basis. Adult Neptune also makes appearances, but these are triggered through the storyline rather than the VR menu in your room. The game also has an autosave system that is triggered upon entering your room. Normally saving is no longer available, so you should definitely visit the room every so often just to have your game save. The VR isn't a neccesary function in the storyline and isn't a core mechanic, aside from the visits by Adult Neptune, which is only a visual event and won't impact your game. This feature is mentioned in the title "Megadimension VIIR", but it does not have a direct impact on gameplay and is simply a nice addition if you're into VR.

Overall, I really enjoyed the storyline and I'm quite happy with the game. There are a lot of changes compared the previous games in the series, but I don't want to go any further into detail for length reasons. I also want to avoid spoiling too much of the game, so SPOILER ALERT if you've skipped to the bottom of the review.

Overall Score - 9/10 - It's very fun, but not perfect. There a lot of great changes, but it could use some extra work on some minor issues. If you're a new player to the series and don't want too much confusion from VII, or a returning player that has played Megadimension VII and want a nice polish with the added VR and better graphics, I'd highly recommend buying the game.

I'll also add that this game has quite a bit of extra fan service in comparison to Megadimension VII. It's still in the Neptunia series, so what do you expect? It is quite nice though...

I became friendly with the Mongols, and then they betrayed me. Outcome, they lost two cities near me.
