The community is small but I've never had to wait for more than a minute for a match. The devs are still actively supporting the game and have new free content coming out in September. The only real downsides are the lack of some fighting game staples like spectator mode, programmable training bots, and connection requirements (i.e. to ensure you only match with people who have good ping). But if you're looking for a unique take on fighting games, check out Absolver.

It differs from other fighting games in that you don't memorize combos, you create them yourself as you learn new moves using a unique directional stance-based combat system. Each attack begins in a direction and ends in another. For example, a sweeping kick can begin with you facing the enemy and end with you facing the opposite direction, and from that position, you can do a twisting punch that ends with you facing them again, then use a front-kick. Or you can use an alternate attack to change into a new position they won't expect. Many moves come with special properties like block-breaking and dodging that allow you to bolster your own defenses or bypass an enemy's. There's a lot of possibilities but the best part is that you come up with them on your own. Each player's combat deck can be as unique as they like.
