I'd personally like to commend Larian for the innovation and cutting edge technology put on display through this game. I am of course talking about the currently unknown techniques they used to bind the spirit of a scorned jester within every copy of this game, putting in charge of the autosave system so they can use their ghostly clairvoyance to autosave before every fight and big interaction EXCEPT for the one time you forget to quicksave over the course of an hour. Truly, they are masters of game design.

Mainly reviewing for the Steam Awards checklist. That said, you see how many hours I have in this.

This game is so nostalgic for me. I remember being a kid, having my dad show me how to set up a skirmish and being immediately hooked. I'd make these made up factions, and when imaginary fights would grow to a larger scale than what I could accommodate with a few action figures and bionicles, I'd boot up the old Windows XP machine and use the skirmish mode to play out huge battles.

The game only got better the more I grew up. I love the absolute b-movie cheesiness of the cutscenes and story, and the gameplay is both fairly simple but with a lot of room for complexity. I feel like anyone can pick up and enjoy this game. It also has one of my all time favorite soundtracks, I sometimes throw it on using Spotify when I'm doing work or walking somewhere. "200 Meters" and "Burn" are my favorites, both sound like the kind of music that plays when some kind of cyberpunk detective arrives at a crime scene.

Great game that's well loved for obvious reasons. Very simple but fun gameplay, with lots of room to grow as development continues.

Personally, I'd love to see a variety of objectives. Maybe a mission revolving around catching escaped lab creatures or doing repair jobs(maybe an abandoned facility holding a particularly dangerous creature in containment? The company drops off scrip you can exchange for cash if you successfully maintain the containment, if fail the creature escapes and hunts down the party while they try to escape. Even better if the creature occasionally continues to show up on that save file until the party gets fired and starts over).

What would be really cool are multi-day missions. Giant maps with multiple facilities, maybe an overarching goal. Like a vault full of expensive scrap that you open by exploring adjacent facilities and shutting power off in each one, each day the party getting closer to opening the vault while the danger level steadily increases.

Of course there's a variety of improvements that can, and most likely will, be made, but I feel this particular improvement would go a long way towards improving replayability. Because as fun as the game is in it's current state, there's always a point, at least in my experience, where the group starts to feel the repetitiveness of the gameplay loop.

Mostly doing this for the Steam Awards badge. That said, this game is a PERFECT 10/10. Amazing music, hilarious visuals, and the gameplay is tight, tight, tight. Big reccomend.

I didn't even know I could review this but I bought one of these a few years back when they were being sold ridiculously cheap. Imma be real, I don't know why it gets as much hate. Again, could be that I got this for like $10, but I've been using one on and off for years and it hasn't let me down yet. Of the two times I beat Dark Souls, one of them I spent 90% of the time using this, didn't once complain about the controller. I wanted to play KOTOR earlier today on my TV so I hooked my laptop up and I could not complain about the controls, works fantastic.

I guess people thought the trackpad was too funky to get used to but honestly I never had an issue with it. It feels good in the hand, and as I mentioned earlier, it's lasted a really long time. IDK why I'm reviewing it. I guess if you see a used one at a decent price and cleanliness, try it out.

There's not much to say about this game as someone who's coming back from the first Remnant, this pretty much feels like the same game but with improved graphics and gameplay, as well as different worlds and enemies for variety. I'm not complaining, I absolutely love this style of gameplay and had a lot of fun playing through a fresh set of worlds with new guns and classes!

I will say, it's disappointing to also see they haven't improved their storytelling at all. Most of the story is told through history lessons given by characters who seem bored of the story themselves, and anything that happens in cutscenes happens to characters we barely just met, let alone had time to grow attached to. I completely forgot about Ford or Clementine, multiple times, and when the ending happened I just could not care in the least. It really feels like their writers are used to writing for MMOs where the gameplay and story barely intersect because having story happening in game would be very impractical for hundreds of people simultaneously.

I really feel like, if they're going to make souls likes, they should take inspiration from how the souls games uses the gameplay in interactions between the player and their characters. Have Clementine, an in-over-her-head newbie adventurer, show up some times and need bailing out of a tough fight or try to help in a sort of bumbling, nervous way. That's good characterization that invests players into her story and gives opportunities to tell the wider story through her, instead of her just being a human shaped speaker that plays audiobooks full of lore at you.

All that said, this is the closest we're probably ever going to get to a PC Bloodborne port, so I'm satisfied.

I love this game, had a lot of fun playing it! The gameplay feels great(the claws are my favorite) and I love the favors you get from the gods. The story is nice and I really liked meeting the characters and uncovering the overarching mysteries.

There is one flaw with the story tho, which is spoiler-y: In order to get the "true" ending, you have to beat the game 10 times. At first my problem was that it seemed incredibly difficult, but after about my 3rd time(when I figured out the pattern to the bosses and which favors to focus on, Ares is great with the claws btw) it just became kind of boring. It felt unnecessarily grindy. I was happy with the "true" ending, and I'm still doing the epilogue, but I needed a huge break after to feel like picking this game up again.

My only other non-spoiler flaw is that I feel like variety is juuuust a bit lacking. I understand this is more advanced than something like Binding of Isaac, but I feel like there could be just a bit more work put into making each run feel different.

tl:dr Great game, love the story and gameplay, good way to start Yakuza series, definitely recommend.

So one of my favorite games of all time is Saints Row 2. It's a ton of wacky fun, filled to the brim with content and a story that, while it hardly ever takes itself completely seriously, has enough character moments to keep me invested. It's not in my personal top 5 or anything, but definitely between 5 and 10. As for this game, I started it knowing it was a prequel, and expected it to be a short little story with some side content here and there, something small for the fans and quick for the new people to the series. What I got was something that reminded me a lot of SR2 in a very good way, while even improving on it in some areas.

The story is definitely tons more investing. I was surprised at how tense and emotional it was, given it was a prequel. Even though I'm going into the series blind, I know Kiryu and Majima are mainstays throughout the series(in other words, they're invincible in this game), but I still felt invested the whole time because of the great side characters. Although it doesn't nearly match the variety, the side content is pretty much all quality, and there's plenty of it.

The worst thing I could say is that Kiryu's real estate business mechanic is actually about as bad as doing actual real estate work. It's sitting around, waiting for the "get money" bar to fill up, getting your money, then waiting for it fill up again. Normally this would be nitpicky, but this is how you unlock moves for Kiryu's combat styles, so it actually gets in the way quite a bit. They clearly put way more time into Majima's cabaret club business, which for a large chunk of the gameplay, invested me so much it made me forget I was playing a Yakuza game.

This isn't replacing SR2 for me, but it reminding me of the reasons why I love that game so much has definitely got me excited for the rest of the series. I definitely recommend giving this game a try!
