Kinetic with one decision, and two of those answers are obviously the "wrong" answer.

I'm cool with spending a couple dollars for half an hour of my time. If you're only investing like $2 you shouldn't be expecting a great game. It's mediocre and moderately entertaining, and that's about what I expected to get out of it. Since my expectations were met, I'm satisfied.

Whoever the artist was that did the sprites deserves a pat on the back, because there are subtle variations in the expressions and I actually liked those a lot. I was expecting maybe one or two expressions and there are 3-5 for Bug Girl and Skull Boy.

I wouldn't read this on LSD, and it would probably be best with friends.

A short game, but a great one! A wonderful little read for a rainy day.

The game is about the characters more than the story or location, which I enjoyed a lot. There isn't a "good" or "bad" way to make choices in the game, and you're rewarded for reading by getting the inner-conflict of the protagonist and his companions. Both romance options have their own merit, and they're very sweet. There isn't anything to get punished over and you feel satisfied in both routes.

Short, sweet, to the point, and silly. I laughed quite a few times. Snorted at least once. I 100% recommend this game.

I'm a short amount of time into the game, and while I enjoy it immensely the controls on desktop without a controller are abysmal. There are points in the game where it feels suffocating how impossible it is to get the action prompts up for different things you're trying to do.

I received this game as a gift during the Steam Winter 2017 sale. Summary in the conclusion below.

I've played the mobile otome games before (including those by Dogenzaka Lab), so I will approach Dangerous Relationship from two perspectives: one as a mobile otome game, one as a computer-based otome game.

Why compare it as two separate games?

Because on mobile we have companies like OKKO and Arithmetic, and on desktop we have our lords and saviors Cheritz.

Mobile Otome Game
  • Excellent JP to EN translation. Language makes sense and there aren't any glaring errors.
  • Pacing. Works for mobile players that read a chapter or a fraction of a chapter a day.
  • Characters have different personalities.
  • Has sfx and music. Not the best, but decent.
  • MC has a changeable name and her own life outside the boys!
  • Fan-service. You want pretty boys fawning over you, you've got it.
  • High-quality CGs. The framing and resolution of the CGs are gorgeous and crisp on mobile. (Compared all CGs.)
  • Character sprites. Expressions change and the styles differ.
  • Sensible menu system from icon.

Computer Otome Game
  • Excellent JP to EN translation, but the way the EN is written is awkward and unnatural.
  • Pacing does not work well for players that read multiple chapters or a full story in one sitting.
  • Because the language is unnatural and pacing is awkward, the story is annoying and not very enjoyable.
  • GUI is ugly and the font in the text-boxes makes me want to barf. Desktop designs look kinda rushed. This is evidenced by text on images (such as on Character Introductions pages) being the font intended, and a different one being everywhere else. Their mobile interfaces are so nice, too.
  • Characters aren't well-fleshed out, including MC. But MC does have a life of her own outside of the men (sorta), which is A+.
  • CGs are pretty, but they're cropped awkwardly for desktop, resulting in incomplete images.
  • Character sprites. Same-Face Syndrome, little differentiation in "realistic expressions." Lower on desktop. Extremely noticeable "unfocused" look in some scenes
  • Awkward menu system on right-click.
  • Awkward controls. Spacebar is "skip all" and Enter is "next." Spacebar is always "next" on desktop.
Music and sfx tolerable but annoying. Frequent looping. Smooth looping, but little variation.
  • Links. On the title screen there are links to Dogenzaka's site and another game. Faux pas on desktop.

Conclusion

I prefer Dangerous Relationship as a mobile otome game.

I consider this in the upper-tier of JP to EN mobile otome games, but in the low end of desktop otome games. The cheesy layout available on a mobile device is more forgivable than mediocre design on a desktop. (Picture mobile otome title screens, character selection, etc.) The awkward English is easier to tap through on a mobile device. The character sprites appear crisper on mobile. The mobile text font is infinitely better. The mobile interface is more intuitive. I don't have high expectations for mobile ports, but I'd still rather play this on mobile.

For that reason, I would not likely play another Dogenzaka Lab game on desktop, but I do recommend it as a mobile game. The quality is too low for what I expect on desktop but high for mobile. If you buy this game desktop, wait for a sale.

While I'm currently in my first play of the free version of XOXO Droplets, I will most likely purchase the full version and 100% it when I'm not a broke ♥♥♥♥♥.

The biggest "pro" to this otome that I noticed from first boot is that the play and GUI are top notch AND YET the game doesn't take itself too seriously.

The story isn't suffocating. It's lighthearted and quite frankly dumb. A club for ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at a boarding school is silly. But it works because all the characters are likeable despite having intensely unlikable qualities. Everybody is a ♥♥♥♥-head in high school anyway.

MC is barely tolerable, but she isn't a self insert and her vibrant goofiness is what makes this entire game work. If MC wasn't as ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as the guys, she would be just another airhead otome protagonist with bad taste in men. Here the bad taste is justified!

The resource and energy allocation system is easy to work with and the developers created a full cheat list anyway in case you're lazy. Date system works well for tracking scenarios. I think XOXO Droplets is designed by and for people that like to track or calculate gameplay until they 100%. If not they totally fooled me because the way the game functions is similar to a minimal resource management game like Sunrider: Academy and that ♥♥♥♥ soaks my panties.

Annnyyyways. Great example of a successful Kickstarter product that after fully funding makes me WANT to spend money instead of forcing me to. The tease is too good.

A few years ago I made a review of this game that, looking back, I felt was inaccurate, so I deleted it. I said that I couldn't recommend it in my good conscience, but I have decided ♥♥♥♥ that.

I have gotten hours of entertainment, smiles, laughs, and frustration out of this game. There are moments when the 3D character model animations remind me of old games I used to play, and that is enjoyable. The difficulty scaling punched me in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ face, which I now appreciate as a more rounded hentai game enthusiast than I once was.

Translation isn't perfect and neither is the story that makes very little sense but ♥♥♥♥ nobody plays these for the story (except maybe me) and I had fun so whatever.

@Devs: I'm sorry for being a coward the first time I reviewed this game. I get a lot of enjoyment out of it. The reason doesn't matter as much as the fact I did.

I want to be able to recommend Catch Canvas, because the story's premise was interesting and the writing was technically superior to most other visual novels of similar length and visual quality.

I don't think I would pay 9.99 for Catch Canvas, for the following reasons:

- Decisions throughout the story don't effect the ending. There is only one decision that "matters" and it's when you choose which of the three artists you'd like to be involved with. One of the cornerstones of the visual novel genre today is the ability to impact the outcome of a story based on your choices.
- Absurd characters. I wasn't sure if the characters were parodies of their tropes. Naachan in particular felt like someone I went to high school with, but how old are these girls supposed to be? She feels like a child.
- CG repetition. IMO it's kind of a faux pas to use the same CG more than a couple times, especially without making any adjustments to it such as facial expression.
- Every time "gyaru" was used to describe Estelle I wanted to roll my eyes. There are so many synonyms like "chav" or "thot" or "tramp" that would've worked just fine. Repetitiveness got frustrating as a reader.
- Sprites didn't change position or expression often enough, in my opinion.
- Not enough unique backgrounds to satisfy my pickiness.

All-in-all I enjoyed reading Catch Canvas, but it was too short and not "enough" for $10 for me.

Hilarious, handsome, and heart-felt.

If you're looking for a serious romantic dating sim, this is not that game. Dream Daddy offers a diverse array of characters, dank memes, and daring stunts but it's not going to be remembered for a deep, developed plot-line.

The strengths of this game lie in the humor and "relatable" aspects of the player-insert (you) and your daughter Amanda. The personalities of the dads are very distinct, each of them having their own collection of interactions with each other.

Lots of laughs in every route, around every corner. If you don't take the game too seriously story-wise it's excellent. Polished to the tips. Definitely recommend for players looking to experiment!

I say "no" on Divine Slice of Life as I don't think I would pay the full price for it.

I've also played Club Life and Negligee by this studio.

Compared to this studio's other titles, Divine Slice of Life feels very short (which is tough, they don't make tomes or anything). When I'm "achievement grinding" in visual novels I like to be able to hit "Skip" forever, but I also like when the paths vary a little bit--at least enough to let me feel like my decisions mattered in a significant fashion. In this case the ultimate questions are, "Do you ♥♥♥♥ the demigoddesses or do you ♥♥♥♥ a human?" followed by "Do I die or not?"

I will, however, add that I very much like the art and user interface style. The text can be a little hard to read quickly because it's all in cursive, which to me is inefficient. There's also no "auto", which I understand because of the voice acting.

It's fun to get all the achievements real quick and I got cheap laughs out of it. If you're looking for deep story and gameplay, however, this is not where you're going to get it. Get the adult patch and treat it like soft-core pornography instead and you'll probably enjoy it far more than if you try to take it seriously.

Memes and offensive humor aside, I feel like I learned a lot about True Korea. The jokes are great and breaking the fourth wall is delightful, but I was not expecting such well-executed satire. The devs approached the political dynamic excellently. I think the consistency of the political take is what makes this game "complete".

But the memes, offensive humor, and fourth-wall breakage are more than enough reasons to play this beautiful game. It's like you get to learn new things as an after-thought, but it's also the whole purpose of Protagonist's trip to DPRK!

My first play through I couldn't choose between the girls and ended up being forced to denounce American citizenship on camera and claim that Korea was the only way to live. Then I got to spend my life living in a platonically-flirtatious household with the ladies. Oops.
