So let me start by saying that I love this game to death, but there is a very, very serious problem that Crytek both isn't handling and doesn't know how to handle.

There isn't an anti-cheat software in this game as far as I'm aware of, and unfortunately, that paves the way wide open for people who decide they want to cheat. Cheating is especially huge in both the Asian and Russian servers, however sometimes those cheaters will be found secondarily in the US servers, along with US cheaters as well. The most common cheat in this game is wallhack, which is especially bad in a game where wallbanging almost any wall in the game is possible. There are also other cheats as well, such as infinite ammo for the avtomat, infinite grenades and consumables, aimbot etc. It seems though that most "safe" cheaters will stick to wallhack to try and remain as undetected as possible.

Now there is a report player option in the game if you suspect them of cheating, but that doesn't actually gets crytek's attention towards the player. The only way to get a player banned is by recording them blatantly cheating and submitting it to crytek's email where they *might* review it. Additionally, the bans themselves take at maximum for wallhack cheaters about 3 weeks to process. Which means a cheater could buy a copy of the game, cheat as much as they want for about a month and not get banned the entire time.

"Well if they finally get banned, problem solved, right?"

Not exactly. Crytek is mostly against permanent bans as it costs them more money to create new accounts, so there's still a good chance that the bans aren't forever anyway. However, some cheaters will even openly admit to cracking steam codes so they can get more free copies of the game.

Personally, after having over 600+ hours in this game I can tell you that it's extremely demoralizing to get killed by someone who you know is cheating, only to know that there's basically nothing you can do as a community to get them to stop cheating. This game used to be so so amazing when it first came out, but now as time has gone on and there's been basically no enforcement against cheaters, there isn't a real reason to play this game right now, because I doubt somehow that having servers filled with cheaters who can't be stopped by any real means is what the developers had in mind.

There have been countless times where I personally spectate a player after they've killed me, and they're blatantly wallhacking, or I'm camped in a sniper tower not making any noise and being out of sight for about 20 minutes only to die to a perfectly cooked frag nade.

Crytek needs to seriously address this issue, otherwise the players who love this game will stop playing, and all that will be left will be cheaters and hackers who crack steam codes only to repeat the cycle all over again.

I'd like to take this time to write this review in hopes that it will eventually lead to the developers.

There are multiple fundamental key aspects of this game that are flawed at the moment which I hope will eventually improve and or be changed.

1. In a game where class diversity is encouraged, there's no reason to have them be locked behind currency or progression barriers. Like in any successful game that has classes with unique talents and abilities, you should be able to pick what you want to from the start so that you can spend time with a class that you enjoy playing, and not have to spend time with the base starter class to "earn" the other classes. This model would only relatively make sense in a free to play environment, and not as a paid game. Many very successful games do not have classes locked behind progression barriers, like the earlier release of TF2 or WoW. The idea of paying for a game and then to have additional content be locked behind progression barriers is daunting and unconvincing of a good product.

Though I suspect like many other studios attempting to be successful, there may be a season's pass that will automatically unlock the new classes as they are released. I would not recommend the developers take this path.

2. There is too heavy of a requirement for the scavengers to trigger the escape mechanic for it to be considered a balanced mechanic. The way you win the game as a scavenger is either by surviving the time limit (7 minutes) or by depositing 140 blood into the blood totems. Each scavenger can carry 10 blood, but each deposit only produces 5, which can be recharged after a certain period of time. However, depositing blood reveals your location to the hunter. I like the mechanic of being revealed, but the amount of time that it takes to trigger the escape via blood totem takes substantially longer than to just play the clock and hide.

3. The combination of the amount of resources it takes to trigger the mechanic along with how long it takes to actually achieve it, fundamentally makes it less viable than just waiting and hiding in a bush. This mechanic makes it feel really unrewarding to play as a scavenger, because the incentive to win is to do nothing as a scavenger, which is really poor design. Sitting and waiting in a bush for 7 minutes does not make for a fun experience, nor is it something I like to impose on pugs or my friends playing, because it is not how the developers intended for the game to be played. There's obviously a lot of effort involved in trying to provide more engaging gameplay, but ultimately, this is where the game is at right now.

The mechanic in which your position is revealed after sitting still for too long is good, but the radius is very easy to escape. All you need to do is just find two bushes in a relatively close proximity, and toggle your position back and forth.

4. The hunter's weapons don't feel powerful enough to make it a rewarding experience for the hunter, or treated as much of a threat as it should be for the scavengers. There's absolutely no reason why a headshot with a sniper rifle shouldn't immediately down a scavenger. The damage modeling makes it feel like I'm trying to kill npc's 10 levels higher than me in borderlands or something. It takes away from the immersion and power that a hunter should feel like they have.

Additionally, when I'm getting shot at as a scavenger, I know that I can still sustain a good amount of bullets before I actually go down, making it easy for me to escape and think critically about my methods, which I don't feel like is really intended. Scavengers should feel like a good burst will put them down, not like they can easily outrun and hide while getting pelted by a shotgun in close range. It would put more pressure on the scavengers to think critically about staying stealthy within their gameplay.

5. Scavengers should not respawn. This partially breaks the immersion for both the hunter and scavenger, making it feel like the hunter's actions have less impact, and the scavenger's actions for survival feeling arbitrary on their first life. It's disappointing and unrewarding as a hunter to know that after you make a good kill, you're just going to have to do it all over again, especially if the player you're hunting is good at escaping. As a scavenger, you play the game far differently between your first and second life. You can be reckless with your first life collecting resources, but much more cautious with your second, making the differences between the two not intended. You should always be on your toes as a scavenger.

Idk, the game needs some work. I wouldn't suggest trying it in it's current state. Hope the devs do some to this to make it better. Then again, it's still in early access, but here's hoping.

First, let me explain why I think that this is a good game and why I'm giving it a negative review. If you want a TLDR, scroll down to the bottom.

That being said, let me start the review by saying some positive things to it.

If you like the gameplay of RTS', then you will absolutely love this game. This is an extremely complex RTS with tons of theorycrafting, designing, building, and playing. It's a very refreshing take on the RTS genre because of how dynamic and versatile the builds of other decks in the game are. (For those of you who haven't played, 'building decks' is basically drafting units into a faction which you can then save and choose from.) You never see the same deck being used twice, and that gives it such a nice twist from other traditional RTS'. You can party up and take place in either small scale, or massive games, with a maximum size of 10v10 (i think). You can spend hours just going over one unit and coming up with all of the viable possibilites for it, which makes this game very cerebral in addition to its other qualities. The 1-1 scale may make it seem daunting at first, but over time you'll find that the interface is actually very streamline, which allows for fast pace gameplay on a massive scale. Overall, this game is probably the most unique and charming RTS I have ever played.

However, this is not without its merits.

Let me tell you a story about my experience I had online recently, which reminded me to write a review for this game because of its online community. Oh yes indeed, the community for this game is absolutely toxic. But first let me tell you an experience that I had online.

My friends and I, a party of 4, wanted to go online and play together in a match. I will be the first one to mention that we don't play competatively because compared to other players online, I'm not particularly good. We found a 4v4 lobby with only one person in it. We joined up on the other team. After a little while, one player joined the host's team. After maybe 5 or 10 seconds, the host kicked him from the match. "Huh, that was weird." I thought to myself. Maybe the host didn't like that player, or maybe that player did something bad.

After 20 or 30 seconds, a different player connected to his team, and the same thing happened. Another kick. Something weird was going on, so I asked the host why he was kicking these players. And this is what he responded with.

"I'm not playing with people who suck because I don't feel like losing"

This continued on for about 3 or 4 minutes, until one of my friends who was more experienced with the game, saw that the host was kicking players on his team that didn't have a win% above 50%. I told him that he can't kick players based on their win % because it's wrong. He ignored us. My friends and myself had already spent a good amount of time looking for a 4v4 match, so we decided to stay, even though the host was intentionally stacking his team with players based on their win %.

After we lost, the host then proceeded to harass us by saying things along the lines of "talk smack get rekt" and "you got a big mouth, its almost big enough for my d*ck". The only "smack" we "talked" was us trying to convince him that it's wrong to kick players from a casual match based on their statistics, and that he shouldn't be surprised if he wins because he's given himself an advantage over us by drafting better random players. That was the end of the match.

This was only one of the many examples of various online matches where my team, or the enemy team, has been without honor or integrity, and has somehow affected the overall gameplay of the match.

I understand that in this community, some people believe that this sort of behaivor is okay, but I am part of the very small percentage that believes it isn't.

In addition to that experience, there is no real way to report players that do this sort of thing, because it's not breaking any rules, it's just gross. Even if it was against the rules, there's no report system to this game. There's no matchmaking system that matches you against players with similar or equal skill to you. As far as who you play against or with goes, it's "anything goes".

In my experience, out of all of the online games I've played, including moba's like LoL, Smite, Dota 2, and WoW, all of which have terrible game communities, this is the single worst community I have ever encountered.

That being said, there are good players in the community who have great win ratings, and don't mind playing with people like me. These good players also don't smack talk, and also find that each game is an opportunity to learn more. These players are worth finding and playing with, but again, this is only a very small % of players.

Now, I know what you're thinking.
"Just because the community to a game is bad doesn't mean it isn't worth playing"

I agree. But this game doesn't have a great single player, which means that the majority of the gameplay that you will want to experience will be online, where you will inevitably interact with other players of this community, and almost all of them will be toxic.

If you buy this game, I strongly suggest that you go into the multiplayer with an open mind, that you will eventually encounter people that will make you want to throw your computer out of your window. But if you overcome the matches that you play with people like this, you will eventually run into someone that will want to help people with open minds, and help people who are patient and willing to learn, and when you do run into someone like this, it's like winning the lottery. I lucked out because my friends that play this game are like this, and I've been learning a lot from them. I'm still not as good as I'd like to be, but I'm learning how to play this game on terms that I can agree with, and not on the terms set by the ridiculously negative community.

If you do play this game with an open mind, and if you decide to take part in the small % of players who are positive, open minded, willing to learn, and willing to lose, you will learn much more about this game much quicker, and you will learn more about yourself along the way.

TLDR: This game is probably the best RTS you will play, it just has a sh*t online community. Be ready for frustrating matches, but you will find players who are positive and will want to help you.

This game is absolutely hands down the best free to play game there is on the market right now. The best way I can describe the actual gameplay of this game is a Sci-Fi Third Person Shooter RPG Gauntlet Legends. It has RPG character building elements with an Arcade feel, really making it feel like you can jump in or leave at any time you want to. What's refreshing about this game though is that character levels don't necessarily mean that you can't play with your friends if say you're overleveled or if they are just getting started, and this also applies to missions. Anybody can join any of their friends, wherever the are, and at whatever level. This ultimately makes for a desirable gaming experience unique to RPG games.

Now I know what you're thinking, "Every free to play game is pay to win."
Nope. Spending money in this game doesn't give any gameplay benefit over those who don't. However, if you want to have slots for more than 2 characters and a couple of weapons, you will eventually have to pay money. So it's not really "Pay to win", per say, it's more "Pay to have access to more things and get things sooner."

But most importantly, the game doesn't feel incomplete despite it being a free to play game, which means that eventually paying money for it doesn't feel like you're spending it on a free to play game. I personally found that I was just unlocking the full game by paying for it.

As an added bonus, the game dev's like what they are doing, and they all happen to be gamers themselves.

Let me make something very clear about this game.

YOU GET TO PUNCH DINOSAURS.

It's probably the most fun I've had in a very long time, only thing is that not a lot of people play it, so getting the real multiplayer experience is going to be harder to achieve.

But for real. Get this game and go punch some dinosaurs.
