Teardown is the high water mark for what a modern game can be. Technologically innovative, reasonably priced and effortlessly fun. I'd forgive you for looking at the price tag and thinking it's a bit much for an indie game, but it's the best $30 I have spent in a long time. For the people that remember what I'm talking about, it's like those Roblox games where you'd destroy the other team's base, but far far more polished and advanced. This is what modern gaming should strive to be.

No neutral review, so I'm giving this a positive review, but I don't feel nearly as strongly about it as I should.

Let's start with the positives. This DLC is $8. I think that's worth keeping in mind. Most games' in-app purchases are larger than that. You get far more content than you would in most modern games, and I think that's very commendable. Secondly, the racing is actually fun. I did find myself wishing there was more to it at times. I loved the elimination races, even if it isn't a new concept. I did have a lot more fun playing this DLC than I thought I would going into it.

Now on to the negatives. The racing has problems. There's the obvious ones that a lot of racing games have - The first half of the first lap determines far too much. If you get out in front, it's very hard to fall behind if you don't crash. On the flipside, it's very difficult to catch the driver in 1st if they don't crash themselves. Additionally, the AI is just far too aggressive a lot of the time. I know this isn't an ultra-competitive racing game, but being driven off the road by an AI just gets frustrating after a while. Oh and the derby events. God they're terrible. Sometimes you just don't get points. Sometimes you give other racers points when you clearly should've gotten them. Retry-spamming is far more effective than it should be. Towards the end of the Folkrace campaign, I honestly found myself glad that it was finished.

Ultimately, I *did* enjoy this DLC, and I'd struggle to give it a negative review, given the price, but this is definitely a step down from the main game. I do have a lot of complaints about this DLC, but on the whole, I don't feel negatively about it.

Early Access Review
Steam's lack of a neutral review option has once again lead me to an uncomfortable choice. If I could give this game a 'neutral' review, I'd do so, but I don't feel as bad about giving a negative review as I might for some other games.

Let's start with the positives: The game is genuinely very fun, given the right circumstances. I've only played a few hours, and I know I'll be putting a few more in. I'm definitely going to enjoy this game while the playerbase sticks around. This game truly reminds me of the early days of Among Us, and I love that.

Now on to the negatives. The game has been out for 4 months, and there's still only one map. Additionally, the gameplay is the same formula every run, with surprisingly little in terms of variation. I can already feel the formula going stale. If Lockdown Protocol wants to succeed, the game needs content updates. The playerbase simply won't wait around for another 6 months for a reasonable size content update. The game has cultivated an audience, and it needs to capitalise on that before that audience disperses. It's a cycle I've seen with all too many indie games, and I fear it will happen here too.

Lastly, it's 2024. The lack of native ultrawide support is just unforgivable. I'd more readily overlook it 5 years ago, but it's just not good enough anymore.

The Witness is... not for everybody. I'd have a hard time calling it a bad game, but I'd have a harder time recommending it to any of my friends. A good puzzle makes you feel smart once you solve it. The witness fails to do this all too often. It's not uncommon to spend a good day or two stuck on a puzzle if you don't swallow your pride and look up a solution. That or just brute force it if there aren't too many solutions. Oh and the sensory puzzles. I don't consider myself to have particularly bad hearing, but the sound puzzles truly tested my patience. They are just purely frustrating, and I felt nothing but relief once I'd finished with them. I'm not colourblind, but I imagine this game is absolute hell if you are, or if you have poor eyesight

If the game sounds enjoyable with all of those asterisks, then you'll likely enjoy this game more than I did. To be perfectly clear, The Witness does manage to create some truly amazing 'aha' moments, and I did genuinely enjoy it for the most part, but they're often surrounded by ill-explained, frustrating puzzles. I'm glad I played this, but I'm not sure it's an experience that I can readily recommend
