This is the single worst part of DREDGE in my humble opinion. I recommend it because I am happy with my purchase, as I wanted to support the devs while obtaining the "Complete Edition", and the two pieces of equipment you get from it constitute a bit of early game QoL, and a massive boon for those wanting to 100% the game (which I did), respectively.

Having a glorified "support the devs" button is fine, but the real stinker here is that it is implemented in a way that adds almost nothing to the story. You could maybe argue it serves as a bit of foreshadowing, but to me it feels a bit forced, and for people who don't buy it, its absence actively hurts the base game by virtue of there being a room you can never unlock.

Would the game be a better work of art if this DLC didn't exist? Absolutely, but I can forgive Black Salt Games for this heinous crime because I am just such a nice guy, and I'm excited to see what they make next.

It's more of a relaxing creature collector than a horror game, but it does the whole pokedex thing wonderfully well, with its harrowing lovecraftian creature designs and the sheer volume of personality that it oozes out of every bit of flavour text.

I found it surprisingly fun and satisfying to 100%, something I rarely do, even with my favourite games. Overall the vibes in DREDGE are simply immaculate. Highly recommend.

Don't listen to the people saying that the devs have abandoned this game, they haven't. If you look in the BBR Discord for literally 5 seconds you can see the devs working on the next update in real time, constantly posting sneak peaks and doing devcasts where they explain what they're working on in detail.

They are playing it patiently and focusing their efforts on quality over quantity in terms of updates, and I think this will ultimately be a good thing for the game.

It has been nearly a year since the last update, with the devs focusing on a huge overhall in that time, but they are currently in the QA phase of development for this update, which means that there is not a lot of interesting stuff to show off, especially on the coding side. It's a lot of boring bug fixing and polishing, which is part of why the lead dev, Oki, hasn't been posting as much as the art devs have.

In the meantime the servers are still up, and while the playercounts are much lower than during the game's initial release and subsequent hype cycle, there are absolutely still people playing.

Anyway the game is peak :)
