Really unfortunate to downvote this game. Sucks more too after buying the s1 pass. The games really cool, imagine guilty gear x marvel, created by a high-tier blazblue player. Pretty insane.

There seems to be some really big misconceptions on it though. No the people that are downvoting it aren't fascists, if you wanna find those go play hoi4 lol. The Devs made a change removing three core things. A scene where at the start a character (filliia) gets assaulted, the armbands of the black egrets that definitely borrows from 1930s-40's Erika enjoyers and big band, a character that gets beaten up by the police.

Generally speaking all of the things in the game held narrative/stylistic purpose. Fillias is then used to show how her hair protects her, attacking the assaulter. The egrets armbands are an example of colour pop, and well lean into their imagery, the wiki is also pretty open about them welcoming those from all forms of life, subverting the narrative. The big band scene gives a tragic backstory and another reason to root for the character.

Personally? I could do without the fillia scene, but I also recognise (especially thanks to the Devs actions) that the idea of the slippery slope fallacy doesn't work when it's not just the one thing they change. This is a game that has existed for 10 years with all the existing content in the game and it's been good, so it's kind of like why?

I'm not sure what the developers aimed to achieve here by toning it down. Appealing to a new crowd might work? But I think most of the people playing the game are doing so because they like the game and the mechanics i.e. I'm not going to call sonicfox a fascist for running paeasoul on their team, and I'm pretty sure most people wouldn't have the mildest inclination against them for it. Not would I call people who play fillia pdfs etc, or people who hate playing against big band racists.. I'm just not really sure what it was supposed to accomplish other than controversy?

Maybe that's just good marketing though ;)

Anyhow I can't recommend it on the principle. I'm not going to get weird and judgey with the people that play it. And it sucks because I do want to put more time into it, it being one of the first fighting games I ever played, having bought all the DLC. The reason I put it off for so long was because of how difficult of a game it seemed, and now looks like I should've just dove into it when I had the chance. If you can look past this, which I think people absolutely can, absolutely give it a shot. I just don't think I can on my principles.

It's a great game which I will leave most of the story out of the review for the sake of spoilers. The use of blinking is surprisingly accurate, the only issue I've found is that if your glasses reflect against something, that can be counted as a blink, and so for the sake of my play-through I took them off. The story is good, strong and quite heartfelt. I don't really have any criticisms of the game, it knows its limitations and plays to them. It's quite short, but at a price-point that's pretty acceptable. The music and design are used well (Although i'm not the biggest fan of some of the background piano pieces).

It's a decent game, for a mobile game fantastic, for PC alright. The story is pretty good for the most part, the ending a bit cliche but an experience probably worth your time.
