Incredibly simple core mechanics, but it builds on them in fun ways, enough that it stays engaging for a long time. Easy to get into but hard to master.

Completely foundational for the roguelike genre. The progress in the game is almost based on skill, though you could argue unlock certain upgrades means runs are easier due to their addition. Still, if you like skill-based progression in your roguelikes, give this one a go. If you've never played roguelikes, give this one a go, it's a good intro since it's very simple to play with a high skill ceiling and a tonne of content, especially with the fantastic modding scene.

Just feels like an expansion of what the first game did, but more and better.

Most freeform physics games lie somewhere on the complexity-ease of use spectrum. Besiege is a bit different, because whilst you can make damn simple machines work, the level of complexity you can achieve is incredible, especially with the recently-introduced logic blocks.

The deformation physics is also pretty unique among similar games, and really adds to the engineering challenge of it all.

The levels are fantastic as an interesting challenge to inspire players, and really get you to explore the limits of the game and of your own creativity. However, I've found that my greatest time sink is simply messing around with the sandbox. If you're someone who enjoys discovering, thinking about, and playing around with interesting mechanisms and mechanical/kinematic concepts, this game is *so* well-suited for you. I've spent many afternoons and evenings browsing creations for inspiration, downloading some, trying them out, and either making my own versions or using them for new ideas.

Very fun game. Even if you don't normally like PVP, horde mode (wave defence) is good fun, and is where I spend most of my time in this game. There's lots of depth to the combat system, I'm still learning new things after 150+ hours about various weapons, maps, or techniques. The dev team appear to be reasonably active, having just added a huge, complex new map and additions to the existing ones.

The only real downside is the community. Lots of toxicity in the chat as can often be expected, but for some reason racists, sexists, homophobes, etc. seem to be drawn to this game. Maybe it's the deus vult memes.

Good fun if you've got friends to play with, otherwise give it a miss.

Don't get this. Just... don't. It is awful. There's nobody on the servers, for a start - please, just DO NOT BUY THIS DAMN GAME!
You can get a free version which is also far better at buildandshoot.com

I really enjoy this game, and have done since I donwloaded it. To those reading, I'd say give it a go, seeing as it's free!
