Sword and Sworcery.... A storm is looming.

I have played Dungeon of the Endless since it was released in Early Access. The game started simple and fun but through its development the creators really grew the game into something great.

At it's core the game plays somewhat like a tower defense game meets roguelike. You control 1-4 heroes... err prisoners that crash landed on [a dungeon] and must carry your escape pod's power core through each level in order to power rooms and elevators. You must do your best managing your resources (food, industry, science, dust - typical resources in the endless games) while you set out to find the elevator in each level of the dungeon. There is a huge risk-vs-reward system, as each room you explore must either be given power or left unpowered (allowing hostile monsters to spawn). And it almost goes without mentioning that, being somewhat of a roguelike, that there is permadeath; If you lose your heroes, or your ships crystal, you will have to start a new game.

Each hero, building and item really feels like it has worth. You will really feel it when you lose a hero or building (module) to an agressive wave of mosnters, though you will meet other prisoners and natives throughout the dungeon that you can hire by sharing food. Each of the 16 heroes has a very unique feel with different skills, narritive and stats. Each item ranges from humrous to epic as you upgrade from using your salvaged starter weapons to the more advanced technology spread throughout the dungeon.

The finished game has a very well done progression-to-unlock system that gives you every reason to keep playing the game after you have finially made it to the end. New heroes are exciting and new starter ships change the way the game plays, plus there is a ton of unlockable art and such. I haven't had any experience with the multiplayer but it seems like it could be tense and a lot of fun. I highly recommend this game to anyone that likes roguelikes or tower defense games!

So, I'm contemplating picking up Payday: The Heist. It looks like the most intriguing part of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which is to say: The multiplayer where you pull off heists, only that game used basically the Hitman combat system, so it was a bit wonky. I'm thinking it will be better as a FPS. Your thoughts?

Also, how are you liking Space Rangers 2? You do know that it's a Russian game, right? So sometimes the translations are a bit... weird.

So, I'm beginning to gather that it might behoove me to spend as much time as I can in each sector in FTL. I made it to the end, trying to fight the last big battleship, and I just didn't have the tools to even make a scratch. Gonna have to explore each sector as long as I can, and leave JUST before the Rebel fleet arrives. Does this sound like a good plan to you?
