I'm 36 hours into the game and I just have to give up. There's a good game in there somewhere but you have to pick through endless annoyances to find it and eventually it gets to be too much (at least for me).

The lack of a reasonable fast travel option really is a major fun killer. I find the studio's messaging on fast travel to be very contradictory. They claim that you don't need fast travel if your game world is enjoyable to move through. But they actually put fast travel in their game - they just severely crippled it. And ox carts aren't a good enough substitute because they don't have direct routes to everywhere you'd want to go.

But running isn't a great option either because of the regularly spaced packs of enemies on every path in the game. Those are nice to start with because you need to grind xp to level your vocations up, but eventually it becomes nothing but a chore. Many of my game sessions ended because I just couldn't be bothered to travel where I needed to go next.

The quests are also abysmally unpolished. I'm not saying I want an RPG on rails or that I need my hand held constantly, but nothing in this game flows smoothly. Quests have you jumping back and forth constantly between cities which, with the aforementioned travel issues, is incredibly tedious. I've never really felt immersed in the story because it takes so dang long to get from one story revelation to the next.

Some quest triggers are incredibly unintuitive or just outright bugged. I was given a quest where I was supposed to follow an ox cart to uncover a plan. I find the ox cart and wait in the area and..nothing happens. So I wonder if I failed the quest because I was spotted. I check my quest log to see if it has any clues and there's nothing because the quest log is borderline useless. Reloading from last save did nothing to fix it. These sorts of issues are frequent and abundant.

I wanted to like this game. I gave it longer than I probably should have. But in the end it was just way too frustrating to continue playing.
