Fall Guys definitely has its share of microtransactions and FOMO game tasks, but it makes up for those with well-tuned competitive platforming and boundless charm.

If you're reading this review, you're one of two sorts of people: either a lapsed Homestuck fan ready to dive back in, or someone who has no idea what's going on, but wants to find out. For the former: yes, this is the Homestuck you know... in video game form!

If you're the latter: I can't think of any better way to dive into this franchise. The art is beautiful, the music is amazing, the characters have more depth than a tunnel, and overall the whole package is just so full of heart. At its core, the plot is straightforward: teenage girl Joey Claire finds herself stuck on an alien world with no way home and must find a way to survive. You know, the usual faire.

As you play your way through the admittedly simple puzzles though, you'll find something else: like its parent Homestuck, Hiveswap is about relationships. As you search Joey's home to find flashlight batteries, you'll quickly find signs pointing towards the distressed relationship she shares with her absent, adventure-loving father. You'll learn about Jude, her paranoid dweeb of a brother whom she still loves. You'll learn about her mother, her dearly departed role model.

And that's just while you're still on Earth.

While Hiveswap is far, far more accessible than Homestuck, there are still a few artifacts of the franchise that will disorient newcomers a little bit. Battle sequences mimic a traditional combat system, rather than being one in of themselves. The game also jumps to different points of view every now and then. They don't last too long, but they can be disorienting. The hint function is completely useless as of this review.

These flaws aside, I still wholeheartedly recommend this game. I can't wait to find out more about the characters and the utterly chaotic situation they've been thrown into, and I suspect you'll feel the same way.
