When the dlc released it wasn't in a very good state, as many of the items were underbaked or bad and there were a ton of bugs(alongside the new survivors and boss needing some tweaking).

However with the most recent update (as the kids would say, they cooked) and future updates that have been promised to bring the dlc up to scratch; Its clear to me that the devs at gearbox who are working on this are trying to make sure that its a product that has the quality ROR fans should expect and enjoy. I could be wrong here but it did seem to me like the dlc was released because higher ups wanted to release it asap(not trying to discount the complaints about the state of the dlc beforehand).

I can now say that the dlc introduces some really fun and unique items that are sure to bring more variety to your runs; alongside the new stages ofc. There are three new characters who bring in some fun and interesting play styles which is always nice, a new boss, and ofc some more awesome music from the same artist.

With how good this update was and how excited I am for the next two, I think the mostly negative review this dlc has doesnt reflect the current state :).

The terrible actions of one person shouldn't be the reason to not recommend a game that many good people worked on. Hope everything works out for Mick Gordon.

I've had this game since the first month it came out and in terms of what it set out to do, it hit the ball out of the park and I would consider it a masterpiece. Sure its not perfect but doom eternal for me comes very close to it and then again, what is perfect.

I'm not one to often replay a single player game let alone complete it; however doom eternal is a game I still like to start to this day. I have obtained all the collectables and beat ultra-nightmare on the main story and second dlc story, which I know sounds like Im only putting here to brag; but I just wanted to reiterate that as someone who doesnt go out of their way to finish a single-player game beyond getting the credits usually I had a fantastic time with this one.

The dlc level packs (Ancient Gods) are a little short, each containing three levels, but If you wait for a sale and love the game just as much as me they are worth it; as the levels are still fun regardless.

Also wanted to dedicate a paragraph to just the music alone. Mick Gordon did an amazing job creating music that's not only great, but also feels unique. I admittedly listen to it outside of the game.

Honestly one of the best single-player FPS games out there.

What an extremely pleasant surprise!

For a pretty unknown early access indie game, this has got to be one of the best fast paced shooters I have played that also has a healthy dosing of the rouge-like genre sprinkled on top that easily scratches the itch I get for games like doom and risk of rain.

The maps are very accommodating for the fast paced gameplay, with plenty of platforms to hop onto and rails to slide around and help keep up the pace.

The gunplay in this game is very well done, as all the weapons feel great to use and there are plenty to select from as you advance a run and loot chests. From your standard double barrel shotguns and laser rifles, to chainsaws, mine layers and a flak cannon that is very reminiscent; this game has them all. Add on top the random modifiers that will appear on weapons and you will be hard pressed to find the exact same one twice.

Whilst the fps part is the main focus, the rouge-like part still has a good presence. There are currently four classes (with another one coming in the future) in the game that each have a different passive, ability and melee/ranged attack. As you level up, you will be presented with perks you can unlock that are unique to each class (alongside some generic ones) which can sometimes unlock further additions to previously unlocked perks in a run. Chests and shops will sometimes also offer modifiers that alongside the previously mentioned perks and weapons can create some fun synergies that make you a powerhouse like in any rouge-like. There are also permanent upgrades you can unlock for future runs.

The only downside I can think of for the moment is that the game is currently in early access; which can understandably cause some hesitancy. If that is the case however, I definitely think that you should wishlist the game/note it down as it is very promising. Some other reviews have mentioned crashes/poor optimisation but I have been fortunate and have had no issues.

Highly recommend; this game needs more attention from the public!

Edit: Just wanted to also add that the game has a nice aesthetic and an awesome soundtrack!

I remember picking up this game during a sale because it looked like a unique fun game to try out.
It has now quickly turned into one of the games that i regularly come back to time and time again and one of if not my favourite multiplayer game; I cant fault it.

- Awesome co-op horde game that is able to stand out from the competition with a great premise and unique gameplay. I would go into detail but just search up some gameplay on youtube; there is too much to say and I wont do it justice.

- The communities for online horde games are usually better then other genres; but this community is seriously one of the best out there (I have probably only encountered one toxic person in my whole time playing this game).

- All gameplay related content is free. Probably one of the most undersold points is that besides some cosmetic packs, (which compared to other games are reasonably priced) allllll of the content is 100 percent free, with more big updates in the foreseeable future. Also want to quickly add that unlike a lot of other games, the free cosmetics you can earn actually look good.

-The previous point, along with a ton of little small details really show that the devs do care about the game; something that audiences from other games would only dream of.

Again, if you are a die hard fan of co-op horde games; or are just someone who just wants to try out an online co-op game but are not sure where to start, this is a must have!
