Games are extremely fast paced. Lasting anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes which makes hopping in easy. The guns all act best when used at the proper range and kills are very satisfying. Worth 6$ no problem.

As others have said, this game is a mix of other survival/PVP games, but aren't they all? Less toxic than rust, and more persistent maps. The leveling and crafting system is very reminiscent of World of Warcraft, in the sense that there are countless recipes and professions to work on (taming, growing, recruiting, transport, fighting styles, etc) and they take time to master.

Good game. If updated this can keep growing, and I hope it does!

Edit a couple years later: Everything that is good must die eventually. Perhaps there is some lesson here. One of the most unique social deduction/forced teamwork games out there. Sad to see it go, when the potential was there for so long.

Rest in Peace, Dread hunger.

I had just opened my little fishy eyes for the first time and saw my buddies close at hand. All turned sour when the music changed and I was gobbled up before I could take my first flap. This is (on hard mode survival for the Bleak at least) a terrifyingly accurate example of what our little fish friends experience. Survival is possible (unlike some of the negative reviews mention) just act like the little fish do in the wild - stay in the shallows, venture out with all caution, run at the slightest sign of danger, and keep your back to a wall! Not for the faint of heart, and not for those who get attached to cute pixels on a screen. 9/10 would recommend.

Rust is a game like no other. That being said, if you want to increase your chances of not hating this game you should focus on a few things up front.

1. Watch/read some guides on starting up. The game can seem overwhelming, but the items and crafting menu are much more straightforward than it initially seems.
2. Start on an EXTREMELY low-pop server or a PVE server until you get the basics of crafting and combat.
3. Practice PVP on one of the modded PVP servers with the bow, crossbow, pistol, and semi auto rifle until you get a solid grasp of the mechanics.
4. Don't let setbacks get to you. The fun of this game lies in the climb and the few friendly allies you meet along the way.
5. Mic and discord are highly recommended.

Rust will twist your guts into knots as a sailor-mouthed 12 year old T-bags your injured body while stealing everything you spent the last hour collecting before smacking you in the face to make his getaway. But Rust will also allow you to get three friends together, hijack a helicopter, fly to a moving cargo ship loaded with loot, fight off other players from taking the bounty, and zoom off into the sunset on a speedboat.

The story is yours, just make it a good one.
