Enjoyable game but it just seemed like it was missing something.

I went into this freshly baked and hoping for a chill experience and that's just what I received. Nice atmosphere and music with a bit of mystery to it. Hard to recommend at full price but was worth picking up on sale.

I hadn't played any Half-Life 2 mods or maps for years. I enjoyed this, well done. :)

Decent enough game but it does get a bit repetitive.

Pretty good game. Decent graphics and a good atmosphere. The story is interesting and you will find tidbits of information as you explore. Mapping out the island is also pretty cool as you have to triangulate your position with already discovered man-made objects. It took me a bit longer than I would like to admit in getting the mapping down but it's unique and gives the game a sense of realism.

For the most part you are alone and things are peaceful and quiet but there is another entity lurking about. There's no combat and your only option in dealing with this creature is to hide or run. I was worried going in that this would be an issue. I don't want a game where I'm constantly having to run and hide. I usually play first person shooters and am used to just blasting the hell out of anything that's a threat. Here that isn't an option but you aren't constantly harassed. It's well balanced.

You do need to keep an eye on the time of day as the nights are dark. In fact, there is no way to adjust the brightness and for my monitor setup the game was just a bit too dark. I just adjusted the brightness in my video card options and things were fine but in this day and age it's sort of lame not to have that option within the game.

Other than the brightness option my only other issue was with the player control. I understand that we are sick and our mobility and endurance are hindered but during the first several hours this was a real downside for me. As I adjusted it was fine but be prepared to move like a drunken toddler. Be especially careful going down an incline as you can fly out of control easily and most likely drop anything you are carrying. Avoid any water near waist high as it's like a plague accelerant.

Along with finding a cure you also concoct things both temporary and permanent to aid you along the way. You can only carry 3 unique plants at a time but camp sites are fairly plentiful and I never once had an issue with this limitation. Until you cure yourself you periodically have to treat your fever and, again, plants to help with this are well placed in the vicinity of a research areas and it's not an issue as long as you keep some remedies with you when you venture out.

The game ran great and I didn't have any crashes or bugs to hinder me in completing the game. That said, several of the achievements are bugged and to get those you’re going to need the community patch:

I also recommend this utility:

This tool is invaluable for the Bored Cartographer achievement. My map showed the whole coastline as mapped as is required to get credit. I ran the tool to check and found a tiny little section in an area my map clearly showed as done. This saved me god/satan/insert your deity of choice here, knows how many hours. DarkStarSword is the creator of both the patch and the achievement tool and deserves a freakin medal for all the work to make this game complete when the dev's did not bother. Thanks dude \m/
