do you like Tower Defense Games? do you like 'twin stick shmups'?
that's the two main Genre's you're mixing here.

juggle your arsenal of Towers as well as your own Ship Abilities/Weapons, in order to stop the Humans from you taking over Earth. react to Enemy strategy changes, make tactical decisions to make strategies of your own, and all in all stay on your toes because the game will always try to keep you on them.

you have a lot of tasks to juggle, and how well you juggle them will determine how well you do at stopping the Humans.
(of the 4 Difficulties, if you are normally the sort of person to pick the middle 'normal' option, i recommend picking Hard rather than Normal, the game will really test your metal on juggling these tasks well then, and makes the game a lot more fun IMO)

if you're like me, and you played Terraria, even quite extensively - but you were looking for something a little more Adventure style?
that's what Starbound is like, IMO. it's similar to Terraria, but more Adventure focused rather than focused only on farming Bosses/Enemies and such.

and while i don't rate games based on Mods, there not only is Mod support but there are Mods available that can really spiral Starbound into some pretty serious, 'hardcore' Sci-Fi Adventure experience. which can reinforce the one liner theme of Starbound as 'Terraria but more of an Adventure game'.

pick a Faction, build Ships, to take on the various Factions that inhabit the Galaxy. try to take over the Galaxy for yourself and your Faction.
collect Resources to build better and better Ships, and to let you build dumber and dumber Ships.

everything is fully Physics driven, for better or for worse. take over that Galaxy. the Factions won't make it a simple task though.

build dorky ships from scratch, then compete for dominance.
build pretty much whatever you want, from a box of Guns with Wings, to going plaid, to a sky Hammer, to Missile Boats, you name it.
and the dumber it is, the better. create the dumbest Fictional Air Force ever conceived by anybody.

also has a feature that makes it really easy to share Vehicles, as they are literally saved as a Picture.

Factorio is incredible. Logistics, Logistics, Logistics. the game is all about Logistics. more and more cool stuff to construct to be able to construct stuff faster, or have more powerful Technology to employ - but the cooler the stuff is, the more complex it is to produce. collect Energy/Fuels, process Materials, metaphorically devour a Planet with Exascale Manufacturing.

oh, also the local Fauna doesn't take too nicely to you devouring their Planet.
and great Mod support.

if you played Battlezone back in the 80's and 90's, this is like the decades later Sequel that you'd expect. new features, more options/customization, more content variety - it's Battlezone with more of everything.

think of the Gameplay loops as a Roguelite - you have some overarching goals in each play session, and can unlock more Gear to find during future sessions through playing.

game has pretty good Performance, handles pretty nicely.
i do not own a VR Headset - but the game is probably even cooler with one than it is already.

this is the best Zombie Game that has ever been made, IMO. fullstop.

it's got everything. a variety of Zombies, decent enough Narrative, cool Game Mechanics, NG+ type features if you just like the game THAT much, and has had some updates ranging from minor to major for over 5 years now.

game lets you do a lot of cool stuff, while the Zombies still always stay relevant.
the works.

this game is perhaps well described as.... surprisingly good. it'll probably defy your expections, almost all of them. in mostly good ways, but not all good ways.
if you're looking at Dark Future and thinking "this gives me the impression of a Lane based, possibly strategy, Mad Max mixed with some Death Race sort of game" yeah, it's something like that. it's also a Roguelite of sorts.

what i was expecting going into this game:
- lane based, so things will probably be fairly tame and straightforward, not much for surprises
- is this a Turn Based game? i'm not actually sure if it is or not. (i hadn't watched Gameplay of the game before playing)

and it turned out that i was wrong on those accounts. while Lane based, the game is anything but just strictly straightforward, and there are a lot of surprises!
Dark Future is not a Turn based game, everything is realtime.

Pros:
- a variety of Classes that do really play the game differently. you have to use different strategies with them, they're quite different.
- enough Weapon and Module variety that you'll have different stuff to use across various runs, but not so much that you'll never be able to 'master' what this or that item is good for and what other items it pairs well with.
- optional but encouraged challenge: you technically don't need to push yourself towards the harder and more rewarding Missions, but you'll be able to afford upgrades a lot faster and so that can make a big difference in the longterm. good encouragement but not requirement.
robust feeling item Slots/upgrades: the Classes differ in Slots but they have some Weapons, and some Module Slots, plus 4 sides of Armor plating, and all of it limited by an overall Weight Capacity that while can be upgraded, will still always be present there to make it hard to have all the cool stuff at once. you'll have to make decisions, sometimes pretty hard ones.
- even a basic 'Kill Enemies' Gamemode is still fairly interesting, since the Player hardly ever becomes Overpowered, you'll be able to take Damage and dish it back out, get pushed around and push the Enemies around, all of that helps even the most basic Gamemode still feel interesting.
- this game is just nuts! it might be Lane based but mundane it is anything but! Cars going careening off the map, crashing into each other, flips, rolls, spinouts, the works. you expect the game to adhere to the lanes but then it gets crazy.

Cons:
- the game is a bit rough around the edges, it does have some jank.
- i experience a Crash here and there, also from time to time performance has trouble for a bit and then recovers back to normal.
- i have experienced the game Hanging once or twice.
- sometimes the nuts stuff that can happen with Cars can screw you over.
- some aspects of the Graphics are a bit strange. for example, this game looks uncharacteristically bad without Anti-Aliasing, worse than most games look without it. however, the only Anti-Aliasing options offered at the time of writing, is FXAA and Super Sampling. FXAA does a mediocre at best job as always, and Super Sampling is just impractical. i was really surprised that there wasn't atleast MSAA, and preferably SMAA.
- the Audio mix is.... a mixture of a bit bad and just crazy loud. the SFX.... i can't quite place it but many of them just sound unpleasant. not the sound itself, something about the way it's playing the sounds doesn't sound right. and also the game is INCREDIBLY LOUD. i have the game turned down to somewhere around 5%.

final thoughts:
- even though Crashing or Hanging sucks and sometimes that can set back some important progression of an especially difficult Mission, the game does save in between every Mission and seems to save every action you take in the Shop. it sucks, but, the game is still fun despite it.
- you can get screwed over by what happens in the game sometmes, but, i'm not angry about it. the game feels pretty fair in this regard, even Physics Bugs feel relatively fair. because, good or bad, it can all happen to both you and the Enemies. so it just means sometimes it benefits you, sometimes it harms you.

game is surprisingly cool and fun to play, despite some of the technical issues that it has.
if you think this game looks interesting and maybe something you might like, you probably will.

i am so glad i gave Synthetik a try. i'd been thinking about it for a while, it seemed neat and perhaps interesting to me, but i wasn't sure and also thought it could be totally nothing like what i'd be interested in.

Synthetik, is quite the hidden gem. Gameplay is incredibly crisp and responsive, and the depth/replayability is staggering.

do you like Roguelike / Roguelite sorts of games? well you'll definitely like it.
are you like me and you sometimes like those sorts of games but also often do not, for not liking bullet hell styles of games? even if you're not all that much for the wide roguelike genre, i think you'll still find the Gameplay here to be excellent, because of how responsive it is, plus that it can be customized quite a lot too. opting in and out of different Gameplay features/challenges.

the game isn't likely to get stale anytime soon, with lots for the Player to keep tabs on and try to juggle at once, plus the ocean of items - there's no shortage of ways to play and things that you'll have to try to play around as a Player.
so if you're the sort of Player that puts very high value on 'hours per dollar', Synthetik has that covered in spades.

Art style is very striking, the Screenshots are indeed what to expect.
performance is outstanding for me, however granted my computer is way overspec for this game.
