It's basically CS2 but better but also suffering similar faults. For starters, the pacing is off, Act 1 is slow-paced but effective, utilizing the pacing to lay a strong foundation of tension as war looms ever closer and finally culminating in a strong finale that was an absolute treat for me, as someone who's played the series all the way fro Sky.

Act 2 is where most of the issues of the game lay (similar to CS2) as in between the great opening and wonderfully fantastic ending, nothing of significance really happens. The fights, while conceptually cool and do hit in a sort of fanservice way lack a strong narrative justification for their inclusion and ultimately remain a mixed affair for me. However, the side content in this Act was all-around good to great and thus the Act still remains overall enjoyable.

Act 3 picks up speed once again, with the two major story moments included being fairly strong and provide closure for various characters. Once again the end is great (which is something that Trails has consistently nailed this far) and the side content continues to be strong.

Act 4 does feel a little front-loaded with all the side quests and places to visit before the big finale but again, the side quests and strong and the grand finale hits all the right notes as each event ups the other all the way to the climax. The 2 ends of the game are both beautiful in their own right, one melancholic and the other uplifting with both being accompanied by some wonderful musical arrangements and the latter end having by and far the most emotionally charged and beautiful end credits I've experienced in a game.

There are two small in-between chapters as well, the first one being an absolute banger ride hitting those highs that only Trails can and the 2nd being a beautiful downtime that gives you a chance to see how far everyone has come, not just the Cold Steel cast but those from Sky and Crossbell as well.

As for the broader strokes of the game, the central plot point is a bit messily handled but works overall especially on a thematic level for Erebonia as a country. This does drag down the story a bit especially compared to its direct predecessor and other finale games of Trails (Sky SC and Azure). On the other side though, the characterization and banter has been the strongest of CS arc thus far and in general, CS4 does truly feel like a love letter for all them from the 9 games thus far.

The music of the game is delightful with many of the themes for the towns and cities being particularly strong.

Combat is pretty much the same as CS3 and thus equally enjoyable and the opening Act of this game is by far the most challenging of the CS arc. There's also a lot of minigames which are a lot of fun a which I spent a considerable amount of my 123 hr run time playing.

All in all, the high points of the game are some of the best Trails has to offer and even the worse aspects never dip down to fully bad. It's not the best game in the series, but it's easily the most enjoyable to play or very well close to it.

Final Score 9/10

Series Rankings: Azure > SC > CS3 > Sky 3 > CS4 > Zero > FC > CS1 > CS2

A decent musou game with a cheesey B-movie plot.

V3 reprensents a sort of conclusion to DR franchise while simultaneously offering a soft reboot. A lot of flack has been given to V3's ending but I absolutely loved it.

Rebirth 1 is a fun but flawed game. The battle system brings a faster pace to the turnbased battles and has a nice sense of flashiness to it.The story isn't anything special but the characters are fun and likable and the script has a ton of gaming references and jokes. Overall a solid experience
