It at length becomes apparent the more I dwell in such uncertain disposition. There, a different type of horror exists.

It's just silence, but it keeps getting faster.

It does not get better than this. Darkwood is peak survival horror with replayability set to maximum atop the backdrop of brilliant, visual storytelling.

Every single choice matters. The weight you feel managing your inventory, combined with the careful decisions deciding the fate of various inhabitants you meet is crippling. You are free to navigate as you see fit, whether you get involved with the petty squabbles of villagers, help them, or make them wish they never met you... there are outcomes for every occasion.

There are no jumpscares, and no unnecessary hunger/thirst management. It's just you, the woods, randomly generated resources/enemies/and their respective placements. You must scavenge by day, fortify your hideout, and hunker down at night in preparation for whatever incomprehensible horrors attack you.

Escaping these trees will not be easy.
You will not be held by the hand.
Be patient.
Respect the woods.
