Every few years, a Portal 2 mod comes out that is so good, that it reminds you of how amazing the Portal games are. This is one of those games. Great voice acting, fun and engaging puzzles, and a good storyline. It's free, get it.

Incredibly buggy and not fun to play. I ended up getting a refund.

Finally, a decent WWE game. It could be better, much better, but it's worth the price of admission.

It's just not a lot of fun. Difficulty of the challenges is all over the place, and the final boss is ridiculously hard. The devs seem to have thought that hard=fun, but it's not hard, just frustrating and unfair.

Also, ♥♥♥♥ the sled.

A bit light on content, but otherwise a great spiritual successor to RCT3.

Honestly: this game was an utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at release, poorly optimized and running terribly. Now, after an amazing amount of patches, the game runs smooth like butter. Amazing music, great level design, and arguably the best character design I've ever seen in any video game. This game left a massive impact on me, especially through the great music, and has been one of the very few games I've actually played through more than once.

And at €5, it's a steal. There's genuinely no reason not to get this game.

Early Access Review
Have... Have these devs ever done any form of skiing? Because it feels like they didn't. Physics are wonky, controls are delayed and wonky, and this is the most unrealistic skiing experience I've ever had.

The developers need to take a good, hard look at the RTL Ski Alpin series. Those knew how to get that stuff down. This game, not so much.

Too hard, it's almost impossible to leave the first area, the atmosphere is terrible and the game is not creepy at all. I strongly regret getting this game.

The following review was copied straight from my review at http://officialvghc.com/vghc-reviews/defcon-pc-review/#.UpROXsTmN_Q, because I'm too lazy to write a new one.

I’m a huge sucker for the movie WarGames. So when I found out about the game DEFCON, I naturally couldn’t resist. Finally I could play the “WarGame”.

How wrong I was.

Being a gamer, I naturally was like “eh, tutorials, I don’t need those.” However, this is one of those games where you do need those without them telling you. And boy is that tutorial lengthy. So, 6 chapters and 30 minutes later I was thrown into the 7th chapter: use what you’ve learned to defeat this extremely-easy AI. Oh wait, did we say easy? We meant hard. as. ♥♥♥♥. Oh, and I still really didn’t grasp the game.

Well, that was demoralizing.

Thing is, officially DEFCON is a multiplayer game. It’s possible to play against the AI, but that’s even harder than in the tutorial. When you keep in mind that one can’t complete the tutorial because the AI is too hard, you get really depressing ideas about what the AI in the actual game is like.

But it’s a multiplayer game right? So why not just face other players? Yeah, about that… There aren’t any other players, really. You’re going to need a friend to play, if they’re willing to play this ♥♥♥♥ at all.

Thing is, the game was “inspired by the infamous 1983 movie WarGames.” So, naturally, I had big expectations. I knew that I probably wasn’t going to play against Joshua, but still. When you make a game inspired by a movie about computer from the MS-DOS era, at least make the graphics resemble that era. Don’t make elaborate maps with perfect borders – make them liney and polygonal. Don’t make elaborate icons – make sure that the game looks like it could run on MS-DOS.

So what are you supposed to do? Well, the game starts off at DEFCON 5. It’s time to build a military defense system. Place missile silos, create fleets, create military airports, place radars. You know – a defense system.

Many actions don’t unlock until you hit a certain DEFCON level. For example, you can’t dispatch planes until DEFCON 3, and nukes can of course only be launched at DEFCON 1.

Now this is the point where you expect hell to be unleashed. Nope, that’ll take a while. You can use missiles to explode nukes in the air (because the radioactive material totally won’t fall on your territory if that happens above land), but it takes a while for those nukes to come. You can try to strike first – but if you’re Europe and your enemy is North America then you’re screwed because you’ll need nuclear submarines, and once those get above the surface they get destroyed because they’re suddenly visible.

It’s also really not clear what the goal of the game is. My best guess is “destroy the enemy’s cities” – but that’s damn near impossible because I needed all my nukes to destroy New York (I had like 40 nukes). So what then? “Destroy the enemy’s defense systems”? That might be possible. I’d rather just know instead of having to guess though.

I feel incredibly let down by this game. It’s just not fun. There’s also some kind of alliance feature for when you play with 3 or 4 players, but I didn’t get to test it out because I didn’t grasp the game and only have one friend to play it with (and he uses the demo).

Know what I miss most? The command prompt. That stuff was awesome about the movie. It would’ve allowed for some great references as well. A missed opportunity.

So, all in all, this game is a huge letdown. It fails to deliver what looks like a fun game, and falls short on many aspects. Too bad, guys, too bad.

Score: 4/10
