Great with friends, or if you get lucky into a good squad that communicates (or at least follows orders). Devs are working hard to add content. Currently, some parts can get a bit tedious, particularly during long rounds where a stalemate is reached.

Half way between Red Orchestra 2 and Post Scriptum.

Nice story, if slightly disappointing in the end. The closure is much less than the build up. There's a few plot holes (notably, in what world did that fence go up? That whole section, in fact, makes little to no sense) but it's a good ride.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but I'm glad I paid less than £4 for this; it's not long enough to justify its price tag. My actual play time was much less than what this review says as I was playing it during down-time at work. I'd say there's between 1.5h to 3h of actual content. Don't expect a long story.

OLD REVIEW (Did not recommended):
The top reviews mentioning the repetition required and similarity to Sunless Sea's problem of duration by tedium cover my views on this game nicely. The only thing I would add is this feels very close to those mindless "element creator" flash/mobile games, where you just drag cards together to make new cards, then drag THOSE cards together to make new cards, until eventually you have all the cards.

It's mostly a memory game of remembering what combinations make what. I love the lore, I love the idea, I love the approach, it was just tedious to play in the end.

NEW REVIEW:
I refunded previously, but was lured back to this game with a Lovecraftian urge. That in itself is pretty reminiscent of the game itself.

It's a curious little game that sucks you in. Over time, finding out the various challenges, opportunities, mechanics and secrets becomes extremely engaging. It does definitely take some time to figure out the various mechanics and what things do, and it still in some instances suffers from being an "element creator" game. It does not hold your hand or remind you of what most things do; it was only in the past hour of play I learnt that followers have different aspects and therefore perform differently when spoken to using the Cult as a topic. This was a game changer.

The fact you have to explore and learn the mechanics is... Two sided. On one hand, I felt ecstatic about the options this had enabled when I learnt it. However, I had to flounder around to discover it. Further, some of the core elements are not obvious; for instance, many events let you place one of many cards in, but only a few actually do anything. I only realised fairly recently that only when the text changes will anything interesting happen using that card; if the text stays the same, it will do the same as having put nothing in.

I'm not far in yet. I've not summoned anything, nor even performed a rite. Once you learn to handle dread and fascination (and not endlessly explore using Streets in Moonlight), along with timing and deciding what you do based on the current events happening (avoid recruitment when your hunter is investigating; focus creating contentment if your dread-despair is rising). It's a surprisingly tactics driven game.

I would give this advice to make the game much more bearable to new players: You don't ALWAYS need to be doing something. So long as you generate income/funds, you can generally sit there and do absolutely nothing. And that's fine, as most actions come with downsides, and generating a lot of downsides at once can lead to a bad time.

Probably my biggest gripe is how long it can take to get back to where you were with your last character. It's incredibly frustrating. Nonetheless, worth a play.

Empty and boring. You're dropped in and followed a story but not much happens. I don't really get what it's trying to be. It's like a Battle Royale game but there's no other players, no real objective... It feels like an unguided Far Cry, with robots.

EDIT: 50% of the game can be summarised as "Shoot, run forwards, hold e, tap r, tap e, repeat".

One of the most underplayed games on Steam.

A fresh take on Battle Royales. 12 players go in in teams of 2, 3, or solo. You pick your gear before the game starts. You have to explore the map and find the boss, kill it, and extract with the boss' loot. But every other player is trying to do the same. And if you die, that character is lost forever, along with all their gear and progression.

You rarely come across a game that so nicely balances gameplay, graphics, weapon control, atmosphere, and thrill.

Wow, people really seem to hate this game.

It's good fun. It's very slow to start, but exploring the town to see what's about, especially looting bins, speeds up the process immensely. It's definitely not polished and I can understand why people would be annoyed by there being a sequel as a result.

For what it is, this is definitely worth a few dollars.
