to be perfectly honest, the title can be a bit misleading. you're also not supposed to get stomped, beaten to death, frozen, burnt alive, overheat, or get massacred by penguins. they might look cute but that's the inherent problem of the game: if it looks cute it will probably try to kill you.
generally 10/10 on the masochism scale so go ahead and punish yourself with joy.

there is a moment, when you realise that children only eat, do not produce anything or cannot be sent out on scavenging runs. that realisation usually happens when they get injured during an attack on your shelter. the aftermath is that you need to choose who gets the last bandages.
the rest is up to you.

The insane level of creativity you experience from the openning sequence, will not cease to surprise you until the final dialogue. Quest design, level design, dialogues, characters and possibilities for personalising the experience are astonishing.
The game however has... a flaw? The reading experience, so deeply connected to its predecessor, was totally acceptable in 1999. However, it's regretful that in 2017, so little was done to visualise the nuances of the world, to present the astonishing level of creativity. A few cutscenes more would definitely enhance the experience. A few more read dialogues? Interactive character portraits?
On the other hand, perhaps the need to read every single event makes it such a unique game and despite the similarity of the events every player has to go through, the final image of the game will be a very individual, and perhaps even cherished prize.
Nevertheless, an instant-classic.
