good game, combat is great. basically ddda but meatier. story is a.s.s.. performance is terrible. with my i7 7700k I could barely scratch a consistent 30fps that only got ever more unstable once you reach vernworth. upgraded to a 7800x3d and I could finally reach 60fps. why am I not writing about my gpu, you wonder? because that thing didn't even matter-- no matter what graphical settings I changed my fps would stay the same. the game's heavily unoptimized and as of writing still has no patch to fix its cpu performance issues. I would recommend waiting. unless you're a ddda fan and can stomach gross fps unless you use frame generation.

update 17/09/2024:

it seems capcom finally patched the cpu issues that plagued this game. changed my recommendation to a yes. it's finally playable.

start up the game once and look at how awful the UI is. what a bloated mess. gotta restart like 6 times before you get to do anything. runs like doodoo too.

if you like the age of decadence, you'll like this. bit of a shorter game and less replayability though due to its more linear nature. like the age of decadence though, it is a must-play for any crpg lover.

edit:deletes your save file for some reason after completion, preventing you from quickly attaining other endings. what the hell, man?

A worthy successor of the infinity engine games. I waited all summer for this one to drop, even playing the beta. I can guarantee the game is god tier up till chapter 4. I have faith the game'll be good even beyond that too.

I now finished the game. As you can see by my playtime and the time of this edit, I've been playing this almost non-stop despite ongoing real life commitments. It's really that good. A power fantasy in a cRPG that is definitely worthy of BG2 and Throne of Bhaal. A fair word of warning though, the game is an absolute bugfest and it is unacceptable that Owlcat released the game in this state. I felt like I was still playing the beta, but just with more content. In comparison with Kingmaker though, this launch was quite an improvement. My personal recommendation is to wait at least a year before buying this or, ahem, trying it out. I still bought this game to support one of the few good cRPG devs out there, and I suggest you do the same if you want more of this.

Together with Pathfinder: WoTR, this has been one of my most anticipated games of this summer. And it did NOT disappoint. As you can see by my playtime, I just binged it all in one sitting in about 7 hours total. Yeah, I have no life. Got all the endings, did all the quests (as far as I know), and I do not regret spending 20 bucks for an indie dev. The game blew me away with its sheer quality.
