Helldivers is a great game. It's a horde shooter that does what it says on the tin. The content it has is simple but elegantly refined. There are very few bugs, the gameplay is exceptionally polished and exceptionally detailed. You can see your ship in space sending you down fire support, extracts will hover and clear a crowded LZ, you can see shell casings eject, and even footprints in the snow. On top of that, the game runs great. It has a decent progression grind too and every weapon and strategem gives you a different approach to the game. The progression grind is also very rewarding. It's not something with a crazy amount of depth, but it's great fun and the developers took pride in creating more innovative ways of scaling difficulty and simply releasing a good product.

Honestly, it's biggest downside is that the game is populated by hyper-obsessive roleplaying weirdos. If you can avoid that, great fun.

True to form for Ubisoft. This game is terrible.

Ignoring everything mechanical, the story is absolutely boring. I'm not even two hours in and i'm bored out of my mind. It's not even remotely captivating. You can foreshadow everything if you have so much as two braincells put together and to top it off, the dialogue is incredibly poor. The UI is not at all intuitive and micro transactions are shoved down your throat everywhere you can look. You're forced to download their crappy game launcher and a lot of features only exist to inconvenience the player through adding what i like to call "unenjoyable time bloat", as in very small things that don't do anything other than soak up your time so when you look back you can go "wow i spent a lot of time on that game" giving you the illusion of content and depth. You can also enjoy shoehorned diversity and LGBTIAQ+ ally content shoved down your throat in places it clearly made no sense to include, as i suppose brownie points for including it was better than actually writing a captivating game story with those things involved.

Mechanically, the base game sucks, the entire concept of gear score and their method of loot was a horrible idea. It was like they took what was good from Division 2, kept only the bad parts, and left it there. I ended up playing the immersive mode because it was just better from a game design perspective and even that was boring. With all of the potential things to raise difficulty enabled, it was still boring. The AI, friendly and enemy, are hilariously stupid and you should have no issues beating the game with nothing but your pistol. Silencers and immersion-breaking in how quiet they are, enemies won't even detect you from ten inches away. The camera is terrible and is permanently too far or too close. Driving is horrible, everything feels like you are either super snappy for no real reason or sliding on butter. This is strange considering all of their other games with half decent or even excellent driving. The gunplay is boring, nothing has any punch or impact at all. Enemies spawn out of thin air as well, and on top of that there is a mechanic in the game where you need to investigate data drops to get clues to search for guns or gun parts. Half the time you kill an enemy on top of this and you have to fiddle with picking up their guns/bodies and throwing them around to even access it.

The first game was much better and it wasn't even all that good if that tells you anything. At least I managed to have some enjoyment playing through it, breakpoint is just straight cheeks even after years of updates.

Requires ritalin to play, great fun, probably one of the best strategy games ever made.

For other curious minds: Works out of the box flawlessly on Arch Linux 6.7.4 with no tweaks needed.

Great game, just has a lot of very crippling bugs. Hopefully they're fixed by the time 1.0 rolls around.

While the developers have tapered off and leave a lot to be desired in the balance department of veteran players versus new players (not talking code knowledge here, simply stockpiles of infinite resources), this game is a gem. I learned a lot and learn a lot every time I pick it up and i've pretty much done nothing but lose to other players. The game natively supports javascript, but you can use pretty much anything you want to with a little elbow grease; from python to rust to kotlin and more. The game will present to you very interesting challenges from a programming perspective that don't seem too hard to solve until you realize that you are limited on computing and memory resources and given a tickrate to work with.

One of my favorite games of all time.

One big thing to note; the web browser performs significantly better than the steam client.

Maybe the best game ever made? I've played this for many many many years and i get infinite enjoyment out of tackling new challenges and just seeing what bizarre crap happens in my world. I'm super hyped for the revamped adventure mode to come out.

I cannot recommend this game enough.
