one of the best platformers I've ever played, with a strong visual style and bumpin' music. always kinetic and frenetic with its brisk level design and controls, there's never a dull moment in the tower whether you're going for P ranks or just playing the game.
and that's on my pride as a fat paranoid italian man.

Let me preface this with this: I didn't find Ynglet a terribly long game, nor a terribly hard game. These do not hold it back, though, as Ynglet is a terribly good-looking and sounding game, and a wonderful experience. Pretty much every time Sarah Sandberg and Nifflas collab you're going to get some bomb visuals, and it shows here in the fictional representation of Copenhagen (apparently!) which our little fish-like dude goes through. The designs of the various creatures you see in ambient space and who you help out are equally unique, and the game really shows its visual flair in the second half, when the levels go to black backgrounds, giving it a very "neon" vibe, which continues into the Negative Mode. The music seems to be the best implementation of reactive/procedural audio in a Nifflas title yet (though, Uurnog was no slouch) and it makes the game an awful lot of fun to just move around in--both in controlling JUST LIKE A FISH WOULD and hearing the world react to your movements/vice versa. I could see there being some replay value in here too, considering the stages could be done even faster--there's a lot of opportunity for sequence breaking and taking advantage of physics here. There are also a few bonus levels as an after-dinner mint, a "mirror mode" of sorts in negative mode, and if you're really crazy, actually doing 101%.
For its price, Ynglet is definitely worth the time you'll spend on it.

Knytt Underground is a ton of fun, both from a gameplay and story perspective. The visuals are very striking, and although the portraits aren't the prettiest, there's a certain charm to them, and they feel like the logical progression of the minimalistic pixel art of Knytt and Knytt stories + the developed atmosphere of Within a Deep Forest. The music, as well, is a logical follow-up, although I do wish there was less music used simply for extra content like the Figure rooms. The platforming as Mi is easy to learn and fits right at home for anyone who has played either Knytt or its sequel, and the ball is equally as easy to understand if you have played Within a Deep Forest. Even without, however, if you take the time to learn the physics, they aren't as difficult as they may seem (and allow for many exploits/sequence-breaks.)
A lot of reviewers seem to have issues with the narrative and goal of the game, so I will say: do not go into this expecting a "metroidvania" or anything like that--it's a much more traditional exploration/adventure kind of game, where a fair amount of the fun of exploring is just seeing the world and meeting people, with the occasional challenge on some screens for items (similar to Knytt). The story, while it may not take itself very seriously (re: the end of any of the three chapters), still provides engaging moments (namely Dora and Cillia's respective storylines), as well as welding together the canons of the Knytt games, Saria, and Within a Deep Forest. If you go out and do the quests, you get a better idea of the world and its inhabitants (and a few extra after-game credits scenes). There is also tons of extra content--be it the secrets around the main menu or in Chapter 3 itself--to keep you going both during and after the game, ranging from additional lore/story to harder challenges for those who simply enjoy the gameplay as opposed to its loop.
Stick around after chapters one and two! That's the most important note--they are tutorial/introduction chapters!

Really fun and addicting arcade-style action, with adorable and well-made art. Fun to try and go for high scores, especially. All in all, just a grand game for a low price.

got it for free so i can't really complain, BUT
1. physics are almost unimaginably broken
2. the lighting system is awful
3. you can activate bombs while respawning and it doesnt do anything
4. another ball constantly spawns, making one onscreen and one offscreen, making levels almost impossible
if you wanna play something like this but better, just google physics games online
