A great game that absolutely hooked me, but definitely not for everyone. 8/10

After spending a good 30 hours finishing the main story, I finished still loving this game, but it has many shortcomings.
For starters, you very early on realise that you are never actually being actively threatened. There is not a single enemy in the game that will hunt you down and try to kill you. There are enemies that take your car, remove parts, damage your car, turn things on and off, but nothing is ever a large enough threat to be taken note of. Most damage, deaths, etc, will come from stationary environmental hazards, or reckless driving and planning.

Next is the repetitive nature of how the game is structured. With the maps being randomly generated, and the amount of unique stuff that can be put in them being limited, after a while each area in a zone starts to feel the same. Same enemies, same type of loot, same hazards. Not to say that this system cant produce interesting moments, because it does, but after a while, it can feel very samey.

Now, i know i just went on and on about the bad, but i still loved this game. The mechanics, the story, the atmosphere, THE VOICE ACTING, are all top tier. I loved customising my car, fitting it out with all my gear, then heading out into the zone trying to conquer my next objective.
The story is interesting enough to have me hooked, but not too complicated to be a drone. The voice acting is legit better than most AAA games. The mechanics of how your car is constructed, having multiple slots for unique equipment than can help the way you play. As well as keeping each part in working shape, while trying to mange resources is a fun challenge. And the Atmosphere, oh god the atmosphere, you just need to play it.

I HIGHLY recommend this game, I loved it, but it may not be for you. If the story doesn't hook you, if you don't like the scavenging, if you don't like having to keep your car in tip top shape? you will not like this game. But if you do, you will LOVE it.


>With the game being out less than a week, i wanted to leave this at the end, but the game has some bugs.
For starters, i had an entire 10 hour save corrupt, and i had to start all over. which sucked.
There is a also a bugged enemy called a 'boom bunny' if one hits your car, it will no longer steer until you A: die or B: somehow change maps by leaving the current one or getting back to the garage. This is consistent, and is widely reported.
I also had some graphical issues, but changing the graphics settings, then changing them back fixed these. I also had one run where just, no more anchors spawned, so i had to abandon the run.
Again, first week of release, hopefully these will be ironed out<

Edit: after the latest patch, most of the above issues have been fixed :)

absolutely terrible to learn, but once you do? you can create some great stuff
