What a massive disappointment, I've been playing mtg for over 20 years and this has to be the absolute worst way to play, if you are free to play the only semi viable deck you could possibly make is a basic RDW and then that's ONLY for the standard, you want to play some draft? forget about it, the entire game is essentially non existent without being able to shell out hundreds, possibly thousands to play the game in a normal way because you are entirely reliant on the RNG of opening packs, because once you've opened the pack you are stuck with the cards you get, no disenchanting, no trading and only the absurdly low chances of getting "wild" rares or mythics. Good luck getting a playset of anything let alone a full deck out of this system

Honestly if you want to play mtg there are much better options, just get a buddy, crack a few backs or get a precon and sit down at the kitchen table and put mtg arena in the bin

It's just not got the depth or decision making a game like this needs. It's just Slay the Spire without any of the design that made that game great. I bumbled through my first run, not really knowing what was going on, didn't even notice what the enemies were doing because I was one or two turn killing nearly every encounter. I misunderstood a bunch of cards due to dodgy wording and still felt like I couldn't lose. While the game has a very defined art direction it does nothing in service of clarity of gameplay as every element on screen has the same level of visual amplitude meaning it's very hard to differentiate between all the elements on screen, stuff just gets lost in the visuals. This game needs a serious rebalancing to be worth playing and even then I think that only just brings it up to the baseline of its competitors.

Far too grindy, considering that this is a PVP game the monetisation is absurd to the point that if I want to even upgrade ONE tower ONCE it's potentially hours of play. Really let down by this series that I've absolutely loved up until now

A beautifully fantastic and moving experience, one that really showcases the power games can have as a media for storytelling.

This is simply a master class of how to design and balance a game. The sheer depth of party management is unrivaled in any game I've played and the creativity given to the player to craft strategies and the challenging gameplay to enable their use is astonishing. I could not get enough of this game and how creative and well thought out the mechanics were while being so simple to get into. I've put nearly 200 hours into this game so far and the only thing I can say is I want more and am looking forward to whatever else this studio may put out.

I love this game though it's got some balance issues at the moment and limited content (though to be expected in early access).

I like that you can name you guys, I named them all after my friends and now my girlfriend is an abusive gambler that hates animals!

I think I'll name a character after her.
