Early Access Review
Ok I've sunk about ~100 hours in now so I can give my honest review.
Holy crap this is the best survival game ever. Maybe even the best game ever made. Allow me to explain.

It contains some timeless mechanics you may know and love from other games... however everything is done in a new and refreshing way as to make it a whole beast of its own.

While there may be a lot of similarities you could see from other games (Like Dark Souls, Rust, Zelda, Runescape etc).. this game brings forth an entirely new perspective to how everything is managed which makes things very refreshing.

The game starts off seemingly VERY simple. You only have the very basics and can only build the basics, Combat likewise seems very basic. You aren't given any real direction to go in and you can just explore at your own pace. However as you progress in the game (which you do ENTIRELY at YOUR own pace), you discover new items which unlocks new tiers of crafting and better gear. As you progress you will slowly discover new items you didn't even know existed and new ways of doing things.

Soon you discover that the game is actually quite complex. While it can seem very simple on the surface, there is actually quite a bit of depth to all the systems, which you don't really discover or appreciate until you take the time to explore them.

Progression in this game is better than 99% of games I have played. While there is no obvious clear laid out path for you (which is great!) - Discovering new items, and beating new bosses will unlock new tiers of crafting / items. For example after defeating the 1st boss you get the pickaxe - which you can then use to mine copper and tin and make bronze - which unlocks a new tier of craftables and weapon/armor. The 2nd boss gives you a key to the crypts in the swamp where you can get iron to unlock the next tier of items/weapons..

The different biomes in the game so far, seem to be tuned almost perfectly for progression. When you are little noobling it's wise to stay in the Meadows, but once you have a little gear and some skill you can wander into Dark Forest but you definitely want to stay out of the Plains and Mountain biomes until you are developed enough.

Each biome is completely unique in their landscape / weather / creatures / plants

Combat likewise, has a great bit of depth once you fully understand the mechanics. While it's not the best combat system I've ever seen in a game by any means - it is a great system overall. it does have a bit of a skill curve to it, but once you understand how to manage your stamina effectively while blocking / parrying / counter-attacking / ranged attacks, you can appreciate the combat system is actually pretty nice. There are some improvements that can be made for sure, but the game has only been out a couple weeks.

The art/colors in the game is fantastic. While I thought it was a little cartoony at first, I've actually grown really fond of the art style, some of the visuals and moods created by the lighting and weather effects are fan - freaking - tastic.
And can we all just remark how in the hell is a game this complex only 1GB?? Other games take note.

The base building system in this game is TOP NOTCH. I mean it's just great. There are some minor complaints I have.. but overall the base building system is amazing. Probably the best one I've ever seen from an ALPHA game. Also you can TERRAFORM and mold the environment to your specifications.

- Repairing items / gear / structures costs NO RESOURCES
- Deconstructing parts of your base gives you back 100% OF THE RESOURCES you spent

These two small features of the game are basically UNHEARD of in any other survival game.. but are SUPER refreshing and very welcome features to have.

Food - It is NOT necessary for your survival. But it does give you nice buffs to your max health and stamina. A very nice thing to have, but not absolutely necessary for survival. Amazing. Also unlike most any other survival game I've ever played.

I'm already in the "End Game" (I've defeated all the "bosses") and unlocked all the items, and still having tons of fun in the game, even though there is no real "end game" content to pursue. There is limitless adventures to have, already.

Just going on a boss fight with a couple friends, taking a boat trip 4 islands over and doing an epic boss fight is one of the greatest adventures I've had in a game.

This game just came out three weeks ago, and it has already blown away every other game. It's in Early Access and already has more content than a lot of AAA games.
The game mechanics are all SUPER sound, the visuals are stunning.
I haven't been so addicted to a game since Ultimate Online back in like 1998.

I cannot wait to see what they do with this game. I've played a LOT of Early Access games, and a lot of survival / adventure games in general, none of them have ever been THIS good as soon as they come out.

Best survival game so far, I think. Very well thought out.
I got it with low expectations but it has pretty much already blown me away and I feel like I've only scratched the surface of what it has to offer. A true survival game, no zombie BS.
The only thing I dislike about the game is the inability to jump.

Awesome, awesome game. Very, very addicting.

Not without it's flaws... it's far from perfect, but from what I understand it's a very small dev team and they have been super on top of listening to community feedback and fixing bugs left and right. I've got about 75 hours in so far and I've gotten my $10 value from it several times over already :)

There's been multiple game-breaking bugs that I've run across, but they were all fixed within a few hours... there was several patches in one day even! Very impressed with the Dev team on this game, it really means a lot when the Devs are super responsive to the players and making changes based on community feedback.

They even added JoshOG (popular streamer) to the game, like 2 or 3 days after contacting him about it. Once again, really impressed with the Dev team on this game... and it's a really fun game which makes it 10x better!
