As a med with 4k hrs, exclusively in pubs. I can tell you a few things that help me do my job easier:

Come find me if you need heals. I'm not going to come looking for you (most of the time).
If you're far away and need an arrow, STAY STILL if you see me lining up on you.
PROTECT ME so I can concentrate on healing. If you see me engaged with the enemy, come help.
If we push and I have uber, stay close to your teammates so I can split the uber between everyone.
If you are another medic on the team, please keep me topped off/over-healed. Professional courtesy goes a long way!
Communicate effectively. I'd rather be on a team that communicates good and are skill-wise adequate than a team of amazing players with in-effective or no
