A fun game for a casual or light hearted multiplayer sessions with friends. Laughing at your friends' misfortune on the courses is sometimes more fun than playing the game yourself.

It's also been nice to see the changes and development the game's undergone through early access. I look forward to it being developed further.

Starting this review off by stating that I've only done a single playthrough and have yet to try the Mooncrash DLC.

I've seen Prey weighed up against titles like Doom which I can't quite understand why. You can certainly play it like a run & gun FPS if you want but there's more depth and heart to the game (especially within your own role) than just that.

A major criticism present in many reviews seems to be related to the first couple of hours and the combat. I can't understand this as I really enjoyed those early hours. You're incredibly weak and vunerable and have to really use your head to get by. Combat and enemies are puzzles and weapons and the environments are tools used to solve them. It's not perfect, of course, some games may do raw combat in ways that some players may prefer but it's got it's appeal. You use different tools for different puzzles, and approach them based on the conditions (the environment, amount of enemies, whether or not you've been using neuromods)

Something that definitely deserves praise is the time and effort that's gone into the game's environments. Each part of Talos 1 feels connected yet has its own purpose, life and range of assets. You get a feel for the universe, it's tech and Transtar just by absoarbing the world. This is where Arkane really excell, with Dishonored being proof of that. What's unique here is that the station is open for navigation, both inside and out. This gives you a bit more freedom to breathe, especially for side objectives that can be persistant throughout the game, while making sudden time sensitive ones a bit more pressured. It also reinforces the alien presence as they don't respawn but rather spread through the ship, with previously explored areas changing in alien presence with later visits.

Another shining point is to be expected of course, the way in which the characters shape to your decisions. When you're left to decide what you think is best for yourself or for other survivors you meet along the way, it gives these decisions ('good' or 'bad', depending on your views) far greater commitment and meaning. Same goes for the consequinces of these actions.

To conclude, the game isn't without fault but nothing is. It's a great expreince made by extremely talented people. If you've enjoyed any immersive sims in the past, you have to try this out. If you're looking to experience one for the first time, this one of many to get into.

The game overall is very fun indeed and the PC version is the one to get, provided your computer can run it. There's a lot to like, and sure it may not be the best in the series for some users but it's a game I liked quite a lot. (Although IV is my fav.)

However, the structure of GTA: Online and recent actions by Take-Two prevent me from recommending this game.

Any "free" dlc added to the game is only accessable via the Online mode, none of it is added to singleplayer. This content must be bought with in game currency which requires the user to either waste hours grinding away or to submit to Take Two and purchase Shark Cards.

Recent comments from Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, stating that he feels that the publisher is "undermonetising" its userbase really do not do the sentiment towards this game and the publisher any favours. Essentially any player who is not yet buying shark cards are seen as unchopped wood or a cow yet to be milked by him.

Finally, the C&D towards OpenIV, a program that has existed for years and allowed for singleplayer mods across many games made by Rockstar's studios is the nail in the coffin. Rockstar and T2 can beat about the bush and blatantly lie to news outlets and us users but the fact that this specific tool was targeted at this particular time does appear to be T2's way of preventing single player users from enjoying content otherwise hidden behind Shark Card paywalls.

Play the game, by all means. Just do it in a way that involves Take Two not gaining any income.

TL;DR:
T2 want the entire userbase of GTA V to be buying shark cards, their actions and recent dialogue to the public clearly demonstrate this. The games industry is pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and this is par for the course for this sort of thing but it still shouldn't be supported. Don't give them your money.

A very enjoyable strategy game. As someone new to this sort of game, it can be a fair bit to take in at first but you will learn the ins and outs by simply playing a few games with the AI. It's great fun and you'll end up spending ridiculous amounts of time playing before you realise it. If you're looking for a game to play with friends, this is also a good choice. A word of warning though, if you thought something like Mario Party could ruin friendships, wait until your best friend builds that wonder you were one turn away from completing. Some wounds will never heal. One last thing, buy it with all the expansions, the "Complete Bundle." During a sale it goes for a good price and it adds a lot to the game.

Nominated for the "Just 5 More Minutes" award.
