I get huge Imperator vibes from this game, especially with how every nation feels exactly the same as the last. Lets just hope that this game doesn't stay feeling similar to Imperator and gets abandoned by Paradox.

- The UI is a bloated mess with multiple menus that do the exact same thing.

- War system is basic which could be fine if what's there worked OK but it doesn't and I don't understand how its this bad when the system is as basic as possible.

- Elections are utterly pointless and don't change how you play unlike V2. One party could be voted in but I can just go into the government panel and put every single party in charge if I like, irrespective of how my people voted because it doesn't matter.

- Flavour? NOPE. In my time with the game I checked out Belgium and Brazil and they felt the exact same, same generic events and same gameplay other than Brazil starts off at war. The worst part is there is zero historical events that happen at all, no Great Game, no US Civil War, no Brothers war... You know this is just so Paradox can sell dlc that adds flavour down the line and since there is no flavour it means we can look forward to so much dlc. This is the worst thing wrong with the game by far.

- AI in general is REALLY dumb. It can't create a decent economy which is hilarious in an economy focused game. Naval invasions are part of the game but don't worry because the AI can't figure out how they work which meant I could be at war with Britain and they couldn't do anything about me in Belgium... Laughable. Dumb AI also applies to the AI that you can have help you too. Auto-expand for your buildings will continually do it until it crashes your economy which is fun. You better like dealing with EVERY SINGLE FACTORY in your nation because otherwise you're going to have a bad time. The game basically boils down to micromanaging every building in your nation by clicking the same few buttons. Trade is equally as boring and tedious but at least you get to look at another window for a change so that's nice. It's actually pretty sad when EU4 has a more in depth economy in some ways than this.

There is a shell of a good game here I think but compared to V2, WHICH IS TWELVE YEARS OLD, or any other Paradox game, it's really not very good. They will of course do the usual 5000 dlc's to fix the problems they've created in the vanilla game and at some point in 5 years time I hope it will be a decent game but right now it's really not and it's baffling how Paradox could think this would be received well.

Easy recommend. Its not that long but thats not a bad thing here.

This is easily one of the best games I've played and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in RPGs. Whilst it currently has some bugs I was one of the lucky ones who didn't run into any and managed to finish my playthrough without issues. Definitely recommended.

Outstanding

I originally reviewed this at release and gave it a thumbs down with a huge list of negatives but wiith the 2.0 release I am now changing my review to positive. Its not quite the finished article yet and still has some issues but its finally reached a point where it's actually a fun game and is worth picking up.

This game makes no sense and I totally recommend playing it.
