Poorly designed game meant to be a cash grab p2w.

UI opacity is so bad; many times I couldn't see icons on the screen because it blends with the background.
The tutorials screens with opacity so transparent that there’s a bunch of distractions from the movement on the background. Its like trying to read a book in front of a television.
Ruining player multiplayer interactions due to bad introduction timing of tutorials. ( my new friends don't leave me, let me finish reading this). This should not happen make the tutorials be part of a single player experience unless its absolutely necessary to explain multiplayer functions.

No respect to the players = no respect from me, i already knew the game was p2w garbage so need to put up with poor design and presentation in the core game.

poor optimization for pc, game its full of frustrating bugs and hackers. Locked in menus, main menus running over 400 fps menus not interacting with certain features. Game not registering you pressed keybinds. Game forcing you to watch cutscenes while registering as if u were doing things, resulting in stunning you or giving sound alerts. The game does not even let you customize keybinds.

In the link below i show a few examples under a twitter thread i created

https://twitter.com/mooiiiike/status/1697295845203353854?s=20

The gameplay is fun but the problems are unacceptable, people should not be paying money until they fix the problems.

i dont recommend playing this game as a mmo however if u play it as a single player experience you might enjoy it. Lots of content, the environment has lots of details, a few cool battles. It's fun exploring sea and islands. Progression isn't hell if u aren't aiming to raid endgame and try to use mats efficiently.

Why I dislike the multiplayer experience? watch this 1min video to get a glimpse, of one of the issues. https://twitter.com/scion_mike/status/1605552570038091776?s=20&t=tzsvYnvj25Ad-gYtNXsq2Q

P2W game it enables gatekeeping and elitism. Players meets item level requirements for dungeons/raids/content but people are filtering players for engravings, gems, other gear/stats etc. I go to streams u see people looking at every single piece of gear & stat others got & then decide if u are worthy to play with them. if u need the optimal glass cannon builds to clear then that means the game is poorly balanced. The balancing is left up to the community to set the standards, which results in people deciding the builds and minimum stats needed to participate in the content. The item level becomes irrelevant; people just do not want to play with people that dont have the ideal builds.

The time gating with daily/weekly content is what encourages this behavior and mentality. I'm pushing through the boring progress of story where there isn't a single player and u see bots everywhere, if it wasn't for the bots I would think im playing and single player rpg, nobody queues for any dungeon u are just solo playing the whole time, its very lonely.

Single player rpg story progress vibes + knowing that in the endgame multiplayer experience, the elitism is normalized, it takes my motivation away. To be clear i'm not really blaming the players there will always be elitism in any game u go. Is the developers the ones that created this optimal elitist environment.

Irony is that i thought the thing that would make me angry was that u can literally get stronger by using real money, convert real money into premium currency enabled by the developer with just a few clicks and just buy the materials u need to get stronger.

Talking about p2w, the loot system is affected by this too. When loot drops in group content there's a bid system for each piece, so the fatter wallet gets the loot if they desire it. Even without p2w this is an issue. Newer players are competing against people that had time to amass a fortune. Even older players could be broke too and the person that has more money than u grabs the loot.

An issue that carries on and gets worse is the experience with dungeons early game where u have to solo, group content. When you reach level 50 & start unlocking dailies/weeklies the issue becomes more evident because the content gets much harder and now u cant clear the content + miss out on the limited/gated rewards that help u progress ur gear and story. At this point u suck it up and progress at a lower pace or try to ask people to carry you through the content. But essentially theres tons of content that u need to do for dailies and weeklies that its irrelevant to endgame players, so u will go through this until u catch up.

A sad reality is that when u start going through the more meaningful group content, u will look for guides and get excited about learning these encounter; the problem is the vast majority of these mechs and fights wont even matter because since the content does not scale or adjust stats, someone overgeared will do so much damage that things just die without u enjoying or experiencing mechs. basically the content has a very short span of time to be enjoyed, u either play the current hardest content or just get carried in everything.

The alt characters funneling mats into main for smooth progress.

After playing for a while and see how much gold u can make per week with just one character and get stuck in the lower tier content that doesnt earn much gold, and u keep failing ur gear upgrades due to rng wasting the little mats u could scrape by; the strat goes from been an option to a necessity. You realize u simply dont make enough gold to get to the real mmo content that has the rewards to progress normally and have fun. You need to play with other characters to make money or trade real money for gold otherwise u will never see the real endgame content or will get bored before u reach there. Suddenly the thousand bots walking by you all this time start to look attractive. You commit to play the game everyday and all the gold u made for a week the bot could have sold you that amount for just 1 dollar or less. Thats when u start seeing how underhanded the gold grind is.

Gold is use for many things even to craft healing items, bombs and other utilities for fights. As a new player u just simply cant afford this and its frustrating. Even learning a fight feels so punishing because every time you use a heal or a utility item u just think about the gold u just wasted by using that item. Not only you require progression currency to create the items u also need to go farm the ingredients, never i have played a game that just heals during a fight require so much grinding, i literally have stop practicing fights just to farm ingredients for potions.

I shall keep playing for a bit longer, but will it piss me off enough and make me quit? idk yet but probably.

edit 2/172023

After playing 800 hours of this game there's 2 issues i would like to add.

1. pheons; its a currency required to trade in market for various items, including ones necessary for gear upgrades, u got a new character and u powered them up? well now u need the pheons to gear it up and of course u can buy unlimited pheons in the shop.also there's item that requires pheons and also u need to roll them for the stats, which means even if u pay for the item, its rng whether its useful or u need to discarded it. It's basicallly the game farming for money ; a scam. hey but its a must if u want to get accepted into endgame content and not get gatekept.

2. This issue is mainly the reason why i think i'm done with Lost Ark; as a new player is very hard gathering a progression/learning party for older content that is still necessary for progression. I have joined 5 different discord servers just to make appointments and reserving slots for learning parties; as if playing game didn't need a structured schedule for managing ur time to participate in game events and dailies, now u need to add these limited appointments to ur agenda. To make it even worse the game has a progression within raids that breaks one boss fight into 2-5 fights so if someone clears one section a player that has not cleared that section can not join to help out and is recommended that they dont even try because to help you out means that they would need to gather a brand new party and once they reach where u are stuck at they would need to ditch the people he just cleared with to try and gather a party with you.

Its just very restricting and frustrating the amount of help u can get. No to mention that finding people willing to help out is already hard enough because the majority of players just want to farm inexperienced people for gold, by making them pay for carries; the famous "busses" where overpowered people come easily beat the content and farm the weak players for gold; so they can become wealthier with less effort. Scam devs that promote elitism and scams, welcome to Lost ark.

awesome game. Killer POV allows you to solo enjoy the game if you dont have friends to play with. Bunch of different killers with different abilities to switch up or suit your gameplay style. Survivor POV any game with friends is more enjoyable and this is no different. I thought i would never play survivor but i got some cool friends to play with and im having fun.

Game is very competitive, so if you take the game seriously and dont want to get pooped on, better start doing some research on how to play better, cause totorials are not good enough, they arent bad, they are just too basic.

Ah game has bunch of sore losers and very toxic people, that love to trash talk on end game chat, that can be rough for some people, I personally troll them back or farm them for videos or stream content. If you can ignore them then you might have a better time.

Nowadays games get you addicted to them by using mechanics that will make you think about the game constantly even when you aren't playing the game. These days is hard to find a game that you become addicted to because is just very fun or entertaining; that's another reason why i love DBD, its power to become addictive just with gameplay instead of low tactics to cause addiction.

The only thing I would praise about this game is the way the story is presented. It has an amazing combination of small cutscenes, slide images with movement and effects, fully animated cutscenes and npc talk. The slide images with effects is what makes the story telling fun and refreshing. However the story itself is like an action/romance cliche anime, if you have a few animes under your belt you will immediately understand what I'm talking about.

The game has massive issues displaying, especially if you alt-tab; a bunch of weird things happen to your screen and the game eventually completely stops displaying. I saw a few people complaining about the same and some people said it only happens on full screen mode. I currently run the game windowed mode, is the one that gives me the best results, because both full screen and borderless gave me the same problems.

As expected if you see Bandai Namco on the game, expect awful UI and menu navigation, it just seems like it's really not made for mouse and keyboard, they feel sluggish and clunky. if you enjoy the game its not that hard to get used to but it is still very irritating to navigate through their menus.

Combat has a really good first impression feeling flashing and badass, however as i kept playing i just found it very repetitive, dull and very basic. What gives you the sense of feeling cool , is the slowing time for dodges, throwing things with psychic powers and the cutscenes that come while in combat when you do certain things. Npcs tag along for your quests and they add some variation to your fighting style by letting you borrow their abilities. I used all my leveling skill points to get skills that would make the combat more fluid. Even with all that i found myself bored with the combat pretty quick, even the "cool combat cutscenes" just felt that they were just getting in the way of the fluidity of the combat.

I would NOT recommend buying this game but what I would recommend is watching somebody else play it, let the other person suffer and deal with the problems the game has and you just watch the good things the game has to offer.

edit: maybe if you really want to play game buy it when is discounted, I would definitely not recommend buying at $60.00

Horrible tutorial. Just go find a basic tutorial guide on youtube and read the game journal, so you have a better idea how to play the game. Once you got the basics down, its pretty easy and fun way to spend time.

EDIT july 27 2021 NGS Version

Amazing combat but no content, gets really boring after fighting the same things over and over. I dont recommend this game yet, it has potential to be super fun they just need time to get more content in the game.

-
AUG 11 2011 PSO2 original game

Fashion and making you spend extra money via in-game transactions is the real focus of this game. The gameplay is cool but the story telling is awful. It's very easy to reach endgame because all story content is optional, however no story makes everything feel in game meaningless just grind and grind.

Every annoying system or mechanic you find in this game, its done so much better in other games. This game just complicates things just because they like complicated things,to me this is just a waste of time.

When you decide to play story mode you are just basically clicking a scene wait for it to load, watch, click through text exit loading screen, and repeat is very boring and annoying.

Another problem that arises with having JP servers and Global servers is that when you are looking for guides or help, you could get lots of misinformation or confusion because of two things. Global does not have all the content JP servers have. Second there's like 3 different english translation for all the terms in game, It's a real pain.

For a game this old it barely has any content, after a while you realize that mostly everything is re-used maps and bosses with higher difficulty. They barely make new maps or bosses but they often release a lot of fashion items via gacha system.

Keybiding in this game has many restrictions, there are things that you can freely keybind and others are set via alternatives they give you. For example 1-0, f1-f12, those are assigned slots for hotbars, the whole set becomes the hotbar or weapon slots. The response time for pressing 7,8,9, 0 is too slow and leaves you too vulnerable in fights, making the hot bar kinda useless, I managed to work around with these issues with a 12 button mice and a remapping keys on my keyboard, if you play with controller RIP. However it seems this game was not designed to change hotbars that fast because i can do it so easily the hotbars have lagging issues, they take sometimes a a second or two, to refresh. What veterans do to work around this issue is use other weapon slots as extra hotbars. Which creates a bunch of hotbars with the same weapon with incomplete actions moves and you have to manually switch to be able to use other moves, which slows you down and prevent further smoothness. IMO is kinda lame but hey w/e works for them and makes them happy. i just feel sega did a very awful job with hotbars and just like every other problem in the game, players found a way to make the system work, but is not a smooth ride for new players.

Game feels fun with all their open customization but this makes room for some great errors, that will lead you to either having really awful builds with low power or spend a lot of time asking for advice and researching, leaving you at the mercy of other players and the community has lots of toxic arrogant players, just waiting to make fun of you.

Since the game is so old, the community has already set down how you should play, what to wear, what to equip and what you should be doing, it does not take kindly on experimenting on your own. Apart from the fact, it will probably cost you money to fix or siting on the developers for reset passes.

Other than level requirement, the game doesnt restrict quests entry. You could have people in end game content wearing lvl 1 gear just because the games only requirement is to meet levels but lots of your strength comes from the weapons and gear pieces you wear, so you could be an op player playing with a bunch of noobs and trash gear.

Which brings me to the affixing process(making gear with better stats). Best end-game gear doesnt not equal been strong. Attaching better stats to gear has many rules that the game doesnt explain to you. Its very confusing, extremely expensive and punishing.

As a fresh player you will find yourself with a full inventory very quick, which you can fix by buying more storage space or paying for it monthly. The rate that things drop and you pick up thing does not match one bit, its very overwhelming for new players. You either learn through painful experience or spend money to fix this issue. The game has a very nice feature that allows you to store certain items in a huge storage and trade those items immediately to other npcs. Starting out they hand over the currency you need to buy this feature but as the game carries on, you will get less and less and start needing to do a lot of grindy stuff to get the currency or you can pay $15 a month and pay to enjoy the game instead of letting the game play you.

JP servers have 200 extra free storage slots by setting up One Time Password and linking mobile game to this game. I dont think Global has that feature, which is a shame, considering that storage and inventory are two of major problems of this game, if you plan to play free.

A few other issues have arised based on item duplication and selling them in player shop. SEGA's incompetence of creating a faulty game and not fixing it properly caused twice within a month to shut down all forms of trading because of the dupping cheat. They fixed it once and 2 weeks later same thing happened again. While i understand that mistakes happen and its not the end of the world; their lack of addressing the community properly and support was shown. They never gave an estimated time when the issue was gonna be fixed, they just apologized never gave any sort of updates until they "fixed the problem" which first time took them a few days. I as a premium player that pays monthly for the access to trade and player shop, I expected a compensation like extended premium(common sense) for the days i was not able to play with the service i paid for. Never they said anything about compensation and when they "fixed" the issue they just handed a few items to get improved rare drops rates and level up faster, things that Sega hands out all the time for free . Not only that, they gave the same "compensation" to the whole community. Which means that they could care less if you spend money or not in the game. To me that just shows how much respect SEGA has for their players and the compensation was a way to say shut up. I found it very disrespectful.

Talking about the player shop it has one major issue, when you are searching for an item and select it, its going to take you to a list that has all the items that the person has up for sale, stuff not related to what you want to buy. It's so easy to accidentally buy something else, especially when buying in bulk. So ALWAYS take your time and slow down when buying things from another person's shop, you could waste millions of meseta this way.

For people that dont want to spend any money, this game might be a glimpse at heaven. Most gacha items system are available to purchase with game currency, if players put the items on the market. That also means that real money controls the gameś economy but it makes the gacha part less punishing since it can become a way to make lots of money in the game. In the end spending real money makes you save time grinding for money to play ¨free¨ and look good. The game really revolves around the players spending real money, thereś no denying that.

Spending money is very expensive compared to games that already provide similar services with game purchase or monthly sub. All these issues combined with lack of good support and addicting mechanics make it a very hard game to recommend. If you can overlook all these problems then you might enjoy the game, the combat and setting are cool.
