Truly one of the best TOTAL WAR game out there.

Its DARK, GRITTY, And, if you like, Very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Hard. Its a Historical Total war game that reminds you of those old TW games you used to play 15 years ago.

Want to destroy civilization? You can do that just like Attila did, burning your way, litterally, trough provinces and empires. want to be a barbarian invader? You can do that. Or do you want to test your might and SURVIVE against all odds? You can do that as the Romans. You will constantly need to adapt your strategy in this game, everyone is out for themselves and alliances are untrustworthy, furthermore, the UI is better than its predecessor Rome 2, gone are those ugly 2d line art esc unit and building icons, replaced with icons in the likes of Rome 1.

Graphics are fine and battles are good, no need to expand on that. The thing that makes all this worth it is that this game does not hold your hand, and will make you feel desperate, conflicted, and make you feel all that doom and gloom in one playtrough.

The only thing i got an issue with is performance, its got somekind of bug or left behind code that makes your modern hardware push itself.

All this game needs, is a patch and new DLC, speaking of, DLC, its got a few. They are mediocre at best, BUT, provide interesting ways to play the game, for example, the last roman DLC makes you step into the shoes of ROMAN invaders, trying to get back lost territory 100 years after ROME was sacked, letting you play a Roman faction like you did when playing the Huns, adopting a nomad style playtrough, BUT also letting you do a 180° and setup your own Kingdom if you tire from the nomad style gameplay. This is probably my favorite DLC in this game. Another good one is the Age of Charlemagne DLC, it lets you play in a point in time 200~ years after the Western roman empires collapse. Its not anything special, but interesting nonetheless.

This game is a banger, and if you sat on the fence till now, about this game, Don't, get it, its really fun!

(EDIT) 06/08/2023 I STILL recommend this, played trough the new campaigns, it is fun, it does feel like AoE1 trough and trough, Roman campaign mission 4 and 5 are hard, which is good. However, the campaign AI in the roman campaign isn't that good, in mission 5 they refuse to attack all the meso areas on their side, and if you don't act quickly they get overrun on hard dificulty.

No one likes wonders, stop it.

Pyrus campagin (greeks) Is fresh, its fun, different than the roman campaign, not as hard however. And the sarkon campaign is also quite unique.

I however am left wanting more.

I recommend this.

It adds 3 campaigns, they play a bit differently than AoE2's campaigns. I played the Roman campaign on Hard difficulty, and it was indeed hard. The AI in campaign tends to like to Wave attack often, getting harder with time. Which i like ,yet to try the other two campaigns.
The graphics are true to the original, everything looks the same as AoE1 but with AoE2:DE's graphics.

If you like the Ancient civilizations style, or in general that time period, this DLC will add them to your game, and let you play *3 campaigns* and 17 civilizations for skirmish & mp. They did not include all the AoE1 campaigns, which they did not promise, despite public outcry, but did alude too in marketing, so perhaps in the future?

The AoE2:DE Romans i have yet to play, with the focus being bringing AoE1 to AoE2, i as of yet have not swayed from that. But i hear they are fun. As a note, ancient civs cannot play against medieval ones in MP, just the new Roman faction they added for AoE2.

Lots of quality of life improvements really help this DLC gain its place over the original AoE1 game, Formations being a big feature. Altough, some things they need to change, for example, if you bunch up a few units and move them near a enemy, they wont attack unless attacked first, this is due to the fact the units are not put automatically into Agressive stance, requiring you to select that option first. You may also get confused with buildings, some things are in different places compared to AoE2, which can disorient the player, speaking for myself on this one.

So, you should buy it if you like Ancient civs, want new campaigns, and play around with the 17 civs, i personally couldn't return to AoE1, so this is really worth for me, as i get to play them again in a better engine. Fresh air from the medieval stuff, despite it not including the whole AoE1:DE package. Its somewhat cheap for a DLC, that perhaps will get some more development down the road.

Very fun first person shooter, a bit different than Counter-strike, but definitely a good game, lots of strategy's are involved every round, high learning curve, and great graphics. A must play!

Runs like a dream on my Ryzen 7 2700 3.4Ghz and RX 580 8GB.

BUT, there are some issues that need sorted, for example; LOTS OF BUGS, mostly crash related problems, there are people i see on the forums who havn't been able to play for 2 MONTHS now, devs seem to be occupied with something, altough they do offer support, only if you reach out to them for it.

Putting that aside this game is everything you want and remember from 20 years ago but better, it has updated visuals, it has tons of new features, new gamemodes, new campaigns, and, to top it all off, an amazing esports scene and SUPER community. Gameplay wise its your run of the mill RTS game, BUT, its amazingly balanced, and offers TONS of out-of-meta options that do work.

A must have for Real time strategy fans!

Epic games store has bought the studio, new player will not be able to buy the game after it is on the Epic game store, do not support EPIC, do not buy this game.

Epic is notorious for buying out game studio and publishers to make games exclusive to their store, making it so you cannot buy the game on your prefered platform, like steam. This studio sold out, don't support them neither, despite their marvelous game named rocket league. To support this game is basically to support EPIC, which is also notorious for its anti consumer practices by making games exclusive.

I gotta admit it is pretty addicting, Its like RUSE, with a little wargame mix too it.
There are a couple battalions in the game as of now, and a few maps. You can play 10v10, 5v5 4v4, 2v2 and 1v1.
Factions seem to be somewhat balanced already. And the system just seems to work.

I must say however, the frontline system (territory shifts) is a bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, had a couple games where we had one whole side of the map, and the other part was still being contested. And still we lost that match, doesn't make much sense tho since we had atleast 3/5 of it and where still pushing and going strong. This was Destruction mode or something.

Other than that if you like frontline RTS's i recommend this game to anyone already, and they are still planning to add more stuff!

Still one of the best FPS singleplayer experiences out there. Lets not forget all the sweet mods that exist for this game.
A classic!
