If anything that has ever happened in an XCOM game has made you frustrated, this will make you at least that frustrated. There is no payoff. It's just obnoxious and poorly-balanced, and I'm both comforted and relieved that the internet agrees.

Don't buy it. If you've already bought it, don't do any of the relevant missions. This is a brutal waste of your time and energy.

I'm not sure what this game is good for. With considerable effort, and more mastery than these systems really deserve, you can just about achieve a janky halfhearted piratical scenario or two--and this really is the best you can hope for. Most of the time the game's breaking or might as well be, for all the interesting things there are to do.

There's none of the openness or transport or possibilities the other TaleWorlds games have, and none of the polish you'd expect in a commercial product of any description. It compares unfavorably to even the more mediocre mods available for Warband; f I hadn't paid for this, I'd have uninstalled it already.

You will not have a good time, but you will blow an extra half hour or so looking for discussion of it afterwards and you will get frustrated by what you find.

Look. This game is short. You'll probably finish it in two to three hours, and you'll probably want to finish it in one sitting. It's short, there's no fail state, there's no test of skill--you'll "win" the game, guaranteed. There's no real horror elements and the mystery is a personal one, not a grand mystical one.

I think I loved it more than any game I'd experienced in years. Certainly more than almost any game story I've ever experienced in a decade and a half of constant, constant story-based gaming. I don't know if you'll agree, and I don't know if you'll like it as much as I did--but I think there's something special here.

Decide if that's worth whatever today's price tag is and make your purchasing decision. If the first paragraph put you off, I don't blame you. But if the second appealed, don't think twice.
