I simply cannot recommend this game enough.
It's a refreshing take on the RPG genre. It doesn't hold your hand through anything. The story flows organically through dialog with no quest markers or logs - just the player and the world, which can be traversed from top to bottom.
The difficulty is not artificial in any way; it is simply what you make of it. Learn the mechanics, master them and you will get the most satisfying gameplay experience you've had in a long time. Boss fights are just challenging enough to truly make you feel like you've earned the victory and make it that much sweeter when it comes.
The multiplayer component is seamlessly weaved into the single player experience, something more and more games have been doing ever since Dark Souls proved it to be quite the viable mechanic.
