All of the other reviews have already told you what a fantastic and immersive train driving experience this is, and they're right. I have literally nothing bad to say about it and the devs are top notch gents who've to date never paywalled any new content.

All I'm here to add is this: the game has never ever been on sale for some reason and I don't see any reason to expect it to be discounted in the future either. I would equally be unsurprised to see them raise the price down the road as they add more and more new content. Don't worry: it is absolutely worth the asking price as-is, especially since the B99 update, in VR or with KB+M. If you're even casually interested in trains you'll regret missing out on this one.

This game is absurdly fun as-is, right now, early access or not.

First impressions, the community is the best part of the game. Far from the unhinged racism of Warzone chat or the angry mil-sim sweatlord types who HATE fun, if i could sum up my 12 hours in a word I'd pick Camaraderie. It's so refreshing to get into a lobby of randoms to find everyone shouting movie quotes (not just Troopers either, see: Aliens, Star Wars, Full Metal Jacket, etc.) in between insane attempts at reviving fallen teammates or while melting through 600 rounds of 7.62 without letting off the trigger because nobody else is in the east bunker (!!).

And even though 80 percent of people don't know what's going on at any given moment throughout a match, the rest of the players that do are angels among men. You won't know what's going on at first just like everyone but shortly after you'll be playing a match when you realize NOBODY knows what to do: This is your chance to earn your Citizenship!

I had the most fun on rounds where it seemed like no one wanted to take charge. It might be the OCD, it might be the PTSD, but SOMEBODY ought to be in charge. If you're lucky it's somebody else, but if nobody is giving any orders, just start doing so!

There isn't any defined squad leaders or a dedicated commander position, which really highlights the disorganization and chaos that makes this game so dam fun. There's the know-how's (please let them have the team chat) and the no-mic's and Chinese players on US Central that have no idea what you're saying but are trying their best and every kind of sci-fi nerd inbetween and it creates one of the best environments I've seen in a multiplayer game in a looong time.

It's short, its free, it gave me the chills. I have nothing bad to say about this game, can't wait to see more. I'd pay for an entire game based around this demo, hands down.

It's good. It's damn good. It's the only early access game I'll ever recommend that's still in early access.

The cars handle exactly like you'd expect them to in real life; that is to say, you probably don't know what you're doing. The handling is much more realistic than previous DiRT titles. It takes some time to get used to, but overall it amounts to a much more rewarding experience. Further, Rally discourages the "anything lower than 1st is a failure" mentality, in part because finishing a stage at all in your first 30 minutes of playtime is quite some victory, even if you did land in 6th. Rally even penalizes you (to an extent) for restarting too much by giving you a set bonus for not restarting a race and subtracting a certain amount from it each time you do. It's a refreshing change of pace from the energy drinks and fireworks of previous DiRT games.

Also, you now have to manage repairs to your car between stages in multi-stage events. This is accomplished by a simple system that allows you to allocate a certain amount of time to repair each system (engine, radiator, suspension, wheels, etc.) for an overall 30 minutes between stages. This means that if you smack head-on into a tree at 50 miles an hour and crack your radiator, you'll have to spend more time fixing that and may not necessarily get time to fix that bent rim that's causing you to pull left a bit.

Finally, there's now also crew management. You start off with a crew chief that levels up over time. As he levels up he can earn certain perks, but I haven't yet played enough to know how well the system is implemented. You can also hire up to 4 more engineers who each specialize in different areas (you can see this before you hire them). They have a contract system (pay x amount of credits for y amount of stages) that seems simplistic but perfectly functional for the intended purpose.

tl;dr This is waaaaayyy more sim-like than previous DiRT games. It plays more like the old CMR games or DiRT 1. And yes, it is good.

In regards to the recent update solving the crashing bug, I've seen fit to change my review. So far, from what I've played, the game runs better than the original, looks better than the original, and has a ton of new content so far. It plays a lot more like Last Light than the original 2033, but is still quite enjoyable. Overall, I'd say if you already own 2033, I'd skip Redux, but if you're new to the Metro franchise, this is a fantastic place to start.

It wasn't very long, but the atmosphere was well done and the sound track wasn't bad either. The only thing that really bothered me was the absolute lack of any ambient sound effects at a few spots in the game, but it didn't heavily detract from the experience. Also, INTERACTIVE TERMINALS OH MY GOSH YES.
