The (base) game is not worth the 60€ price tag and probably not even the 30€ that I got it at. Skyrim with My Little Pony mod installed feels more Borderlands than this.

The story of the game follows the familiar Borderlands format, with two caveats: there's basically no NPCs that follow you through the story, which is incredibly short. Sure, Tiny Tina and the Bad Guy narrate your adventures, but you're not regularly interacting with any recurring NPCs and there's very few familiar faces scattered about. For example, I would've expected Roland and Mr. Torgue to play significant parts in the game, what with their relationships with Tina. NPCs, in general, are entirely forgettable, with some minor exceptions.

While the overworld map that connects all of the different zones is a neat idea and I like the various items scattered across it, I feel that it is very lacking in execution and is thoroughly undermined by the fast travel system. Either the overworld or the fast travel system should not exist. Additionally, the approximately four or five maps that are there for the so-called combat/random encounters in the overworld get incredibly boring, incredibly fast.

Speaking of maps, they are all very generic fantasy natural-scenery maps: there's a bit of grasslands, woods, city, sea floor and pirate beach. These are all fine and dandy, but the variety is significantly lacking in comparison to prior Borderlands titles. There's no volcano or underground biomes, for example, and what maps are there are very unimpressive visually.

The maps feature four primary factions: skeletons, greenskins, fungi and coiled (naga). None of the four factions have distinct mechanics or gameplay elements; there's nothing along the lines of skeletaurs, goliaths or hyperion bots at least before whatever is the equivalent of TVHM in this game. Technically, there's also pirates and bandits, but these are barely even visually distinct from skeletons, let alone mechanically. Scattered between the forces of the main factions are some fantastical beasts, such as wyverns and dogfish, which do distinguish themselves from one another.

With the fantasy theme come spells, which replace grenades and come with an automatic recharge mechanic. While some spells are incredibly powerful and feel great to activate as they can destroy an entire wave of enemies and put a huge dent even into badasses, most spells are lackluster and usually worse than firing a gun. The variety of spells is pretty good, but I wish that anything besides fissures actually had any "oomph" at all. For example, meteors come with a significant cast delay and have _tiny_ impact areas by comparison and absurd recharge times to boot.

Alongside spells there are the class-based skills. There are exactly three interesting skills: polymorph, invisibility and reaper of bones, though ambi-hextrous deserves an honorable mention for conceding that the spells are strictly more interesting than the action skills. Everything else is of the format "press button to deal damage", which is confusing at best considering how easily many of the action skills in Borderlands titles could have been reskinned with a fantasy theme.

Skill modifiers also do not exist, which combined with the above leads to every class feeling basically the same despite having extremely distinct themes. Your choices are to either shoot at stuff or hit them with your sword/axe/mace. None of the skill trees feel like a substantial change to how I play the game.

As there is only a single skill tree for every class, an opportunity to "multiclass" is presented. This essentially means slapping on the passives from another class to your initially chosen class. Don't forget to google the skill trees before you lock in, because the game does not actually give you any indication as to what the choice entails beyond a "this class is good at fire damage" when choosing and I don't know whether it is even possible to choose again. Nor do I really care, because why would I when there is essentially no difference?

You can freely choose your character's body shape, pronoun and voice independent of one another, which is nice, I guess, if I cared about any of that and if all of them weren't so incredibly bland. I have always enjoyed the various quips, puns and dialogue of the Borderlands player characters, but that does not materialize here.

All characters look essentially the same and outfits — the visually most distinctive part of your character — are tied to your class mod. There seems to only be a small handful of variants, all of which look the same. If you thought you could be a robot-ninja-pirate, think again. The color/pattern alterations you can make to your outfit are also incredibly bland and require you to find them as drops from enemies or from collectibles scattered around the world. If you thought Borderlands 3 had bad customization options with the ugly-ass head and body options, you really don't want to see what Wonderlands has to offer.

TL;DR: it's bland. Buying and playing the DLC again is a better use of your time and money.

In short; a simple to approach simulation game with sufficient complexity to keep you going for hundreds of hours.

I've just finished Episode 3, and I do not regret paying 20€ for this game. Although, having a sprint button would be really nice.

After staying up to play Fallout 4 for ~79 hours and finishing a 21 hour rest, I conclude that this is a good game and is much better without the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ skills.

P.S. Cait rules.

!!! NOTE TO BUYER: There are severe problems with Windows 7 !!!

So, this is a game that uses mechanics from the earlier versions of the Dungeons&Dragons pen and paper RPG. It is out-dated gameplay-wise, but the story is well-crafted and the level of freedom is still far better than what many modern games allow.

If you're considering buying this game to play with your friends - hold it, that's probably not a good idea. This game has been ported from the earlier version of the game, and present problems include:
- Crashes when alt-tabbing
- Crashes when progressing to the next chapter in multiplayer
- Glitches

While the problems in multiplayer may seem minor, it is still frequent enough to make you no longer want to play after a few chapters.

However, if you intend to buy this for the singleplayer content and don't mind the graphics, go ahead - it's a great buy.
