As my first AC Title, I wasn't sure what to expect picking this up. I heard the hype around it but I just let it pass under my radar, as recent Triple AAA titles have been really hit or miss as of late. Sufficed to say after a few months and hearing good things, and also watching a few friends playing it, I decided to give it a go. I just finished the Liberation ending at the time of this review, and just hit NG+

Combat is very adrenaline pumping. As a slight negative a lot can be happening on the screen at once depending on the fights and be very disorientating, but to me that somewhat adds to the fun as you dodge past a large volley of attacks as you launch your own attack.

If you play this on controller, I highly recommend bumping up the camera speed higher than the default, otherwise you'll be stuck slowly turning the camera to take care of any targets behind you.

"Look at you... 621... You found... a friend..."

I do not recommend it simply based on the fact that in the Dungeon Maker there are three different sizes of a location, and all of them are not divisible by 12, which is the smallest size of room available for any locale, meaning you will always have a tiny bit of space that is left unused.

Speaking of the Dungeon Maker, it is incredibly bare bones and extremely limited. Custom items are just base game items that still function the same as their base game counterpart, except you can rename them and change their gold cost. Custom NPCs are base game NPCs that you can change their stats and name, but they will look exactly like the same NPC from the base game campaign, and have the same equipment and spells.

Gameplay is pretty good, Dungeon Maker is so incredibly limited it hurts.

TL;DR Whilst I've been enjoying the game so far, I would still not recommend purchasing the game for the full $60, wait for it go on sale, and even then might still not be worth it as it might not run well.

The game still has a problem running steadily, with constant frame drops even with DLSS set to Ultra Performance and on Low graphics settings at 1080p (with the adjustments of setting Crowd density to low, Screen Space Reflections on Off and Lowest setting on Fog) on a GeForce RTX 2060 and i5-9600k, although this might be an issue with my own computer as the game maxes out my CPU and my GPU has 0% utilization (but full RAM usage on the GPU card). If I look into this, I'll edit my review later for what I've found.

In indoor spaces with not much going on it'll stay at 60 FPS with a few dips here and there. Driving and walking around Night City will typically average around 45-55 FPS depending on the area, but if its a really busy area, it'll easily drop to 30 or lower.

There are also sometimes graphical issues, such as details in the distance flickering or smearing, not to mention vehicles and civvies popping in and out of existence a few times. Nothing super noticeable, but it still happens a few times more than you'd like. (My favorite being the dude pissing as he was walking along to disappear once he walked into a bar)

If you love facing CR 2 Creatures that have their dex suddenly bumped up from their usual scores of 13-15 to 22 (on normal difficulty with no stat adjustments) and having the ability to kill an AC 25 Shield tower fighter- then this is the game for you.'

| EDIT |
tl;dr
+Pro

+ Feels like pathfinder- and gives enough choices on dealing with events that it makes it feel like you can actually play your character how you want him

-Con

-Fights can suddenly vary in difficulty from "Oh that was easy." to "WHY DOES THIS THING HAVE 20+ AC AND +15 TO HIT?!" at low levels for no apparent reason

Alright- let me do an actual review here (WARNING- Spoilers for some of the Stolen Lands and the very start of after you get your kingdom will be in this review.)
For my first 14-16 or so hours of the game- I was honestly having fun. I didn't have to do too much save scumming- and most fights were fair and had plenty of options on how to go about them depending on your party selection. The game definetly has that pathfinder feel- and (almost) perfectly follows the system.

I played on Normal difficulty with a few minor adjustments (no death's door- and enemy crits did full damage, creatures had normal DR) in order to get as close to the normal pen and paper game as possible.

I got through the first chapter- and beat the stag lord within 10 days of starting my adventure with a level 4 party (you get 90 days to do this.) I felt accomplished- My tabletop experience with the game pulled off it felt- as the encounter itself was obviously stacked against me- however helping out a certain bandit- and tactically going about the combat got me a win with only 1 party member dying. It felt fair and not like I was being cheated (Then again the owlbear kindly decided to not fight in my experience- so... that helped alot.)

And then the next chapter came around. Oh ♥♥♥♥♥♥ boy. Everything went to ♥♥♥♥ pretty quick after that. At that point in the game you now own your own kingdom. I was learning how the kingdom mangement worked- meeting with advisors- building settlements- taking land, etc.

The very first big problem that threatens your kingdom is a curse. Jhod and Tristian will come up to you and warn you of a curse growing on a hilltop nearby. You have 30 days to prepare for it. I didn't mind it- worked on my kingdom until it showed up and kicked it into the ground easily. Some time later I found that I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up kingdom management and decided to reload at the very start of the chapter again. I was warned of the curse again- and was honestly not at all scared as I beat it easily my first time.

That. Was. The. WORST. Mistake. Either they just patched in the boss to make it harder (which guides for the boss before the hotfix coming out mean't no- they didn't add it in with a patch.) The game bugged and didn't spawn him in- or the most likely case- I got RNG blessed the first time and Crit the boss in 1 hit (I wasn't paying attention- all I saw were just crappy large spiders and kinda let my party do their thing.)

So- sufficed to say- second time I come back- I let my party do their own thing when all the sudden- "Hold on why the ♥♥♥♥ are you dying- these are just low level large spiders-- what the ♥♥♥♥ is that."

The Doomspider- and that wizard (which his name escapes me- but should start with a c and end with a t and is 4 letters long.) are the most. annoying. things. imaginable.

Lets start with the spider. He has around 24-28 AC- which required my party to roll 18+ in order to get a hit that dealt what felt like hardly any damage- Honestly if the fight was just him- it would be a slug fest just praying to RNG- but it would be at least beatable.

And then the wizard. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Six- or even more uses of Hold person- and several more uses of Hideous Laughter. Sufficed to say- after 6 rounds of combat- my entire party was effected by hold person- and the spider would just go and kill the party- one after another as none of my party would have enough AC to avoid hits. It was just at that point praying that the spider would roll low on his damage (which suprise- it doesn't- even on minimal rolls- its still a lot of damage). Even trying to rush the wizard down with all of my party members failed- as he himself has high AC- not as high as the doomspider- but honestly that was my last attempt and I was not going to deal with reloading several times to just rush a wizard down constantly- after already getting my ass beat.

And you know what annoyed me the most out of this encounter? After reloading about 6-7 times and then giving up on it? Apprently- I could've just avoided it entirely and let one of my advisors take a DC 15 roll to negate the effects of the curse for the whole 14 day duration that it stays there.

Sufficed to say I was not happy.

So be warned- prehaps take the full 90 days to level up and grind before taking out the stag lord- all you miss really is a +1 dueling sword with a spell- up to you.
