This is legitimately my favourite game.
I have ~35 hours logged as of this review, and every single minute has been a blast.

It's very definitely a rage game. You will die. A lot. (A lot.) And most of those will be from dumb mistakes.
But another attempt is only one button press away.
And then you can spend another few seconds flailing until you die again. :P

This is a very minimalist game. Four buttons (left/anticlockwise, right/clockwise, start game, quit), basic geometric shapes, short levels (they're considered "beaten" at 60 seconds), a three song soundtrack of chiptune music...
The soundtrack is absolutely amazing though. (...When you get to hear more than tiny snippets haha.)
I like to describe it as an "instant rave" (once you get past the part where it's "instant rage" obvs :P) because of the music and the flashy colours.

Super Hexagon relies on pattern recognition and quick reflexes. If you struggle with either (I'm not so good with the reflexes part, personally), this game will be that much harder.
If you have trouble with games that have relative left/right, where it's relative to the character, not the screen (again, hi), that will also add to the difficulty.
But that just makes it so much more satisfying when you beat your previous best and get that "Excellent".

Honestly, the main enemy of the game is yourself. Your clumsy fingers, your poor reaction times, your dodgy muscle memory, etc. Your dumb mistakes. (I'm really not kidding about the dumb mistakes, haha.)
Beating those, succeeding, that's the best feeling. You've challenged yourself and won.

The strength of this game is the sense of power it gives you.
The adrenaline rush when you get an amazing run and blast through further than you thought you could go.
The sense of accomplishment upon beating a level (reaching 60 seconds and "Hexagon"), or even getting to "Awesome" (120 seconds).

...The ending, too. The ending is breathtaking (when you get there on your own merits especially).
I personally avoided spoilers until I finally earned it on my own (less than a month ago), and it was worth the wait.

This is not a power fantasy. You're not vicariously powerful through a character who is powerful.
No, in Super Hexagon, you become the powerful one.
