Great game with a lot of quality of life improvements in comparison to CK2. It implements a lot of stuff that CK2 had and expand upon it but some things are still missing. For example, you can't play as a merchant republic, but they will most likely release a dlc for that...

Nevertheless the game is brilliant and paradox probably made their best decision ever when they allowed achievements while using mods ;)

No character customizer and boring levels also no dsII space battle level, avoid at all cost

Tried it on the free weekend and I must say the game's good but it just got boring after short time.

Only played campaign during free time so can't say anything on multiplayer, I heard it's improved in comparison to first one and more balanced now but as wh40k fan the biggest upset for me was the earlier mentioned campaign. Definetely good thing is that they added more campaigns that you can play from the start, I guess it does provide some sort of replayability in comparison to first title but they are all pretty much the same with only minor changes in gameplay and race mechanics. Story mode was dull and I didn't even care about what actually was happening story-wise after few hours, I felt like I was just playing some random skirmish against AI. Talking about AI, I felt like it was actually harder to play on easier difficulties because AI was just camping forever in same system before it made any move so it was harder to gather decent force to fight AI, especially at the beginning, on harder difficulties AI was attacking more often thus leaving their flanks weakend.

So yea, long story short, if you are more interested in story mode or lore of warhammer 40k I will just recommend buying the first title as campaign in BFG was miles better. If you don't mind less "cinematic" aspect and more grinding just buy this one, it's still decent game.
