You may be asking yourself, is Frostpunk 2 better than the first game? Allow me to answer your question, with a question.

  • Have you ever wanted to harvest nutrients from corpses to feed to your population? Frostpunk 2 has it
  • Have you ever wanted to grow test tube babies? Frostpunk 2 has it
  • Have you ever wanted to pump your workers full of stimulants to make them more productive? Forstpunk 2 has it
  • Have you ever wanted to subject criminals to human experimentation to make them pay for their crimes? Frostpunk 2 has it

In all seriousness Frostpunk 2 is an amazing sequel to the first game that expands greatly on the scope of the first game. The inclusion of factions has really spiced up the game in a good way, adding one more thing to your list of things to worry about as you try and guide your city into a new future. The graphics look great and the soundtrack is absolutely amazing.

Is Frostpunk 2 Better than the first game? At the moment I wouldn't say it is, but that is mainly owing to the fact that Forstpunk has had years to get updated/patched/DLCs released. Overtime I think we will see Frostpunk 2 continue to get better and better as its given similar treatment to its predecessor.

If you liked the first game, get this game.

"We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable." -Sony

Still requires PSN linking for multiplayer, apparently they didn't learn anything.

Other than that, breathtaking game so far.

Not the 1.0 I was hoping for...

The 1.0 update has brought a lot of great additions to the game. More guns, awesome new and reworked maps, new customization options, and big improvements to the singleplayer SWAT AI.

However the suspect AI continues to be incredibly unrealistic and unforgiving which I can see being a major turn off for people picking this game up because of 1.0. Unless you get the jump on them, every suspect has the accuracy and reaction time of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ special forces operator. You will peak your head through a doorway and a suspect 50 feet away that you can't even see will immediately detect you and light you up.

There's also a critical lack of variety in way suspects react to being raided by the LSPD's finest. 95% of the time you encounter suspects who will not surrender. They are extremely fanatic, aggressive and have no self preservation. Like you mean to tell me that instead of running or hiding from SWAT, this fat streamer dude instead takes up arms with all his buddies and fight to the death? I don't think so. Consequently this causes some missions to loose their intensity such as the night club and Barisa Cove because instead of dealing with some new hyper aggressive threat that you haven't seen before, it's just the same hyper aggressive threat you've dealt with since the first mission.

Another thing that was lost in this update was mission types in favor of more set in stone narrative driven missions, which killed a lot of the replayability missions in early access had. Its super cool to play through all these missions in single player. I really enjoyed listening to the mission briefings, discover pieces of lore within levels, and seeing how the dots begin to connect within the detective room at the police station. However why can't I have the option to play different scenarios for these missions in multiplayer, or after I complete the mission.

On top of all of this there's several other issues that have been brought up from this update. Lots of people including myself have been experiencing instability and crashing even though early access ran perfectly fine. Loadouts don't save in multiplayer for some reason and you're given the host's loadout instead. So everytime you spawn into the police station you have to run over to the equipment bench and re-equip your loadout. Even with the new SWAT AI, they still sometimes make terrible choices or just straight up not listen to you, which can lead to multiple member of your team getting wiper by one suspect

Don't get my wrong this game is great and I've managed to get about about 170 hours of enjoyment out of it at the time of this review. However it feels like this update should have been another early access stepping stone, not the full release. I'm sure void will eventually end up fixing most of these issues listed here. But man is it disappointing after an entire year of no updates and then getting this.
