From Halo: CE to Halo Reach, I'd argue it's one of the most defining games for videogames in general, let alone FPS. What happened after Halo: Reach is a catastrophe, Halo 3 wrapped up the trilogy - but Microsoft insisted on wanting their own Star Wars, going so far to completely ruin the gunplay, level design, enemy design etc, retconning the game to hell and back.

Halo 3 is the peak of the franchise - a game from 2007 looks and plays better than most modern releases from 2015 and onwards. I can't believe how much content it has, how much of a butter-smooth gameplay it has. Halo: CE, a game from 2003, has aged like fine wine in almost every sense. I'd take it in and remember how exciting those years were back then. These games are a relic of a time where developers were willing to be challenged - where as developers today follow a template, going so far to even miss the point of what made older games so great.

You've probably heard Deep Rock Galactic in any game with Co-op elements, claiming it's the best Co-Op game out there at the moment. It's obviously a lie.

The game itself is fine, it ticks all the boxes that a "good" game would tick - it reminds me in a way like Sanctum 2, a game that should've succeeded for everything it was trying to do, but didn't. The core difference being that DRG did succeed, Sanctum 2 was mostly left forgotten by the vast majority. Despite this I still don't think all the praise DRG is getting is all that deserved.

Personally, it's gameplay loop isn't that engaging, the overclocks you grind out are completely random - so most of the times you'll get overclocks that are objectively terrible, hoping you'll find the ones that are objectively good. The game isn't challenging as it can mostly be frustrating with different mutations - which means that Deep Dives (the end-game content, "hardest difficulty") can either be a piece of cake or genuinely the most frustrating lengthy missions in existence. It's also due to the random-generated maps that your enjoyment will vary.

Other games make their own maps with the intention that it doesn't get frustrating, where in Deep Rock Galactic it had happened one too many times that I had to leave, primarily because the caves were just a chore to do. There were also moments where I stayed to see where it leads me to, only to waste an hour or so on boring cave-gens. Fortunately it's not too common, but it's still common enough to write about. Some of the missions like "Escort Duty" and "Industrial Sabotage" are so boring that I remember out-right refusing to do any quests that required those missions to be done. You're essentially doing the same thing over and over again, being tied strictly to an objective - with very little variation between runs. The "Seasons" also function like this, you do them once and you get bored with each run - it also doesn't help that those seasons introduced poorly optimized events (I think you can turn off season content though).

There are missions/gamemodes that are good too, but when you get a mission like "On-Site Refining" with a bad cave gen (getting the worst spawns to setup pipes) - the once interesting gameplay mechanics start to feel more like a chore.

The final verdict is this. Do you like mining and like the feeling of progression? In that case, just play Minecraft. It's a very chill game to play with friends and as a bonus you get to make your own stuff in the downtime. If you want a game that's Co-op with beefy gunplay and a challenge, then play a game like Killing Floor or Payday: The Heist. If you feel like playing a "lengthy" game with random-generated areas and solid progression, consider Barony a try. Deep Rock Galactic "successfully" combines elements of Sandbox Destruction with Horde Shooters - except it feels lacking in both categories. Deep Rock Galactic feels like a Jack of All Trades game, ticking all the boxes on what makes a great game great without going into the finer details of either genre. But to me personally, that's also the downfall of this game. I ended up getting an appetite for other games while playing DRG.

I will still recommend DRG to players that are looking for a casual Co-Op game with good destruction and randomly generated levels. Simple but effective 4-class system with some weapon variation. DRG follows a "Simplicity is strength" philosophy, so don't expect that many changes in the core gameplay loop.

Jagex is the sole-reason I hate British people.

They continue to screw up the game with forced MTX - what a shame honestly, I don't think there's a game as chill and expansive as Runescape 3.

Do I recommend the game? If you got a buddy that'll introduce the game for you, or got an in-depth guide, yes - definitely. The game itself is a masterwork, definitely one of the more influential games in the game industry.

Do I recommend the decisions made by Jagex? No. MTX is horrible, chat is dead, minigames are also dead, the new quests are nowhere near as impactful or fun as the older quests. People keep wasting their money on proteans/dummies and AFK at Varrock - instead of actually playing the game. "Efficiency Scape" is becoming more and more prelevant and Jagex doesn't even try to nullify that fact. I would argue "chat moderation" (which probably doesn't even work properly, lol) had killed off most interactions, it's better to not banter because everything is offensive in the 21st century now. What's even funnier is how controversial and hypocritical Jagex is, in the rules it clearly says that "politics in chat" is not allowed - and then they yearly dish out an LGBT event - don't like it? Well, you're somehow breaking the rules then... They'll say that major updates are coming, only for them to shoot the community in the head and release a glorified battle-pass. Auto-clicks and botting isn't allowed and will get you banned, but buying EXP from Jagex won't... Just to clarify, I've never spent a cent on this game, been playing this game way back when you could get a membership just from 10 hours of grinding as a F2P - the game has unfortunately remained P2W garbage for some time now. Hopefully Jagex will stop with their nonsense and calm down on the MTX. Even though I always preferred Runescape 3 over OSRS... OSRS seems to be doing incredibly well in comparison (no MTX, only bonds and sub).

To summarize? I don't feel like I wasted my time with Runescape, but thanks to how horribly wrong Jagex mistreats this game - I have my doubts I'll ever actively play Runescape 3, as a game it left such a bitter taste in my mouth. I guess it's my mistake for not moving to Oldschool Runescape. Just play OldSchool Runescape if you want to scratch that RS itch. And don't listen to the people shilling you the game - they're either in hardcore denial or genuinely oblivious on how bad Runescape 3 is in the long-term.

"Major updates" are just 100% EXP events. The experience you get becomes irrelevant after you hit LVL 50. You don't really need to go for 10+ after LVL 50, as you can easily complete a build before you hit that level.

Overall opinion? Dark and atmospheric (albeit copy 'n' pasted Open World) and very fun build variety with gear. Gunplay feels good too, it's satisfying to pop heads - no bullet sponge enemies (unless you count bosses as one).

Unfortunately the game has no content, if there was at least one actual "Major" content update per year - I'd recommend it. This isn't a "slow development" game, it's an abandoned game. And that's a damn shame. I invested 180-ish hours into this bare-bones game, so that on it's own should be an indication that these are some really good bones desperately waiting for some spicy meat to be slapped onto it.

Don't let the media distract you from the fact that on 2002 August 18, Noah Kaiba blew a 10,000 to 100 point lead against Yami Yugo for the right to have Yugi Muto's body.
