While the game certainly has its shortcomings, it remains the best modern city-building game in its genre today. It has come a long way from its disastrous launch, but it’s still riddled with bugs. Most of these aren’t game-breaking, though they can get quite annoying.

The modding system is clunky and chaotic, with some users even reporting malware from certain mods. I wish they had stuck with the Community Workshop mods like in the previous game.

Despite all its flaws, the game is still a fun way to kill time. I just wish they’d release more content and DLCs at a faster pace.

Early Access Review
It's a very buggy game, but it's to be expected since it's still in its Early Access stage, but it's pretty alarming that it's been in Early Access for quite some time already.

One of the major problems that I've personally experienced in this game is:

a. Every single time I load into a world, any sort of audio from the game disappears when using Bluetooth headsets/earphones.

b. The day and night cycle is too fast. Exploration sometimes becomes frustrating when you're on one side of the map and leave on sunrise and arrive on the other side of the map on sunset.

c. Supplies are a little too scarce and limited. Shooting mechanics are pretty weird in itself already, but in spite of this and having very few ammo can become frustrating. Once you run out of ammo, you basically just walk around and wait for Bigfoot to kill you.

d. The world is too buggy/glitchy. Walking through walls or trees or rocks is a very common thing to experience.

e. Price is a little bit too expensive from the current state that it's in, especially since it's still in Early Access. When you're paying for a price like this, you're expecting something a little bit better even in its Early Access stage.

Very simple game, but there's not much "strategy" that goes into playing it than it says so.

There's not much variety when it comes to wars; there's no infantry, no ships, no vehicles, or anything else to choose from to either defend yourself or attack. It's all just "units", a glorified numbers game. Wars in this game are just basically "bigger number beats smaller number"; even if the unit difference is only 1, the one with the higher number of units are still most likely to win most of the time.

In terms of diplomacy towards other countries/civilizations, not much to choose from as well. Relations between two civilizations can generally only change from a click of "Improve Relations" or "Send Insult".

In all of my hours playing this game, I've noticed that you can only either colonize the entire world or get colonized; it's an eternal juggle between the two with constant conflicts happening non-stop, and even after certain peace negotiations, they will declare war to you again for no reason at all. Even if you have no relations to them, to their allies, or to their enemies.

Despite all this, it has an abundance of pros as well thus my thumbs up. But I'll leave it up to you to enjoy it for yourself.

Overall, if you're looking for a much simpler and slightly cheaper Paradox war strategy map game, then this is for you. It certainly isn't the best but it does the job.

The Culling a few years back used to be really fun with good mechanics and a good community.

Sadly, the game's been dying rather quickly recently, and I can see its end draw nearer as time passes.

This is probably because of bad maintenance by the developers themselves. They try to squeeze every single cent you have in your wallet and keep on adding new unnecessary things in the game. And because of that, the number of players is so low at these times that you could probably count it with a few hands.

RIP The Culling.
