One of the best early access games I’ve ever played. I think this game has the potential to go down in history as one of the greatest of all time.

You can tell the creator is a massive gamer themselves and someone who has paid attention to all those annoying little bits we have all come to loath in these sorts of games. For example, by allowing the use of blobs to do your farm work you take away the tediousness of doing the standard daily farming jobs that mist users get fed up with. However, by giving the user the ability to also allow their non blob character to do these jobs themselves, it allows you to play the game how you want - so if you enjoy the rhythmic farming process you can still indulge in it.

Personally I love the battle system - it’s such a nice change from the tedious standard TBG such as old school Pokémon or pretty much any JRPG. It’s challenging, fresh and much more interactive. I find in other games I breeze past all the battles in the early stages, but that’s not the case here - in a good way though. The levelling system for your opponents is also clever and balanced, so you don’t find yourself constantly battling either too low or too high levelled opponents. There is also the option to change to a easier battle mode which is great for those who aren’t as focused on the battling or just want a more casual challenge.

One thing I love about this game is the transparency of what parts are ready and what parts are still being made. You only have to pull up your task bar to see the messages from the creator stating that this task can’t be completed it early access. You will find the same message dotted crosses various places on the map and even places like the museum donation board.

Being in early access there are a few snags, but this is to be expecting. Once the full realise is out I will review it again and update accordingly. I respect the creator for letting us join in the process and actually listening to what people want. It is all too common for games to come out in early access and drag their heels or be abandoned for a few years, but not with this game.

Looking through the updates there has been time the creator has done multiple updates in one day, immediately fixing glitches and being transparent about any mistakes made. As a user this makes me rest easy knowing that if I experience a game breaking glitch it likely won’t be around for long.

My main snag of the game is that I don’t feel certain things are explained very well. I’ve had to turn to guides a number of times because I’ve been unsure on how certain functions of the game works. Go example you can’t see a description of any of the blobs moves or abilities. This means you can only discover what they do by trying them out and if the move ‘misses’ - which passive moves that effect the status of the enemy blobs often do - you have no idea what that move does.

I also felt the breeding process couldn’t have been made a little clearer. I was breeding away immediately and getting blobs six generations in before realising they weee all too low level to fight against the level of enemies I was at. In the end I was over run with blobs and not enough space to keep them, so donated a load and started the process again. Once you know what you are doing it’s great.

Some resources are also a little scarce at the moment or felt like they were during my game play. It took me longer than it should have to realise you can cut down bushes for fibre, but once I did I found it much easier building barns. That being said I seem to have tons of wood and not much else.

If I could instantly change two things about the game it would be that I wish you could heel all your blobs at the doctors office (bit like in Pokémon, except in this case you’d pay because otherwise it would be too easy). Currently you can buy potions, but these are costly and only work on one blob, or you can take them to eat once a day at one of two locations - it was only late in to game play that I discovered that this is also how you get more recipes, which explains why it is so pricey. However, just being able to pay 200 to heel your blobs would be better (IMO). There is a feature in one of the seasonal events that could be implemented in the Doctors Office to achieve this. Even if you could only use it once a day, a bit like in games like Rune Factory that feature ‘hot springs’ or a ‘spa.’ I have seen others mention a spa in this game, so perhaps this is a part of the game I’ve not ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to yet.

The other thing I would change is that I wish places like the mine and beach would regenerated every day because without this it made some of the building quests issues by friends very difficult to complete. As friendship levels are tied to the Pokémon League style tournament I found I couldn’t progress to the next stage for a long time. Either that or just lower the number of items needed to build things, as well as the cost.

All that being said, the creator has nailed the Animal Crossing style ‘falling stars’ type evenings, which rain down mainly copper ores. You get told ahead of time which days this will happen on and it’s always the same time - it’s so much fun and much better implemented than Animal Crossings was.

They have also recently implemented the genius ‘Wishing Star’ feature, which allows you to create a wishing star if you collect five pieces and that in turn guarantees you a wild blob of your choice. This balances the low egg drop rate perfectly and was put in after user feedback. A great example of how the creator has stayed true to their original idea of having a low egg drop rate so each time it does happen it feels special (which it really does!), but has also met the user half way and understood their concerns.

Taking everything in to account I feel that all these ‘snags’ will be things of the past by full realise. I believe the creator has the skill and knowledge to create a boundary breaking game that could go down in history as the next Pokémon or Stardew Valley. I can’t recommend this game enough and I can’t wait to play it on full realise.

Current score - 7/10

P.S Please excuse typos, I am dyslexic and have no one to proof-read. This is why I normally don’t leave reviews but I couldn’t resist this one! I will update any typos that I see.

This brings me back to my childhood - but with refined gameplay, better graphics and regular updates! I keep coming back to this game again and again. The gamemakers also listen to their audience and take their suggestions on board, which is incredibly refreshing. Wouldn't recommend enough!
