If one where to say which game is better, doom 2016 or doom eternal, i'd say that its pretty even. This is far from a negative thing and its also not like they changed anything either. Its the things they did change that while sometimes was a positive or negative change, more often it was just different.

Pros (in accordance to my opinion)
-The movement options are greatly expanded on to mimic more of a quake feel than doom (2016)
-shotgun gud lul
-some boss fights were very engaging and fun
-the new enemies were all fun and there is not a single enemy (well technically one, more on that in da cons) that i don't enjoy.

Cons
-I think on were there being inspired from and how doom 2016 went, I find it odd that they would decide to use heavy cutscene usage like they did. Its stuff like this one part where you would shoot a tentacle with a big ass turret. in doom 2016 it would remain in your perspective while the tendril fell apart at the seems. In this game they change perspectives and cut to an action shot from far away. Personally I think this is a mistake due to the fact that it puts the explosion much farther away and less real than if it were to actually happen.
-The entire game, every npc with dialog will fondle your ball and say how scary you are but to be completely honest i didn't feel that way once. I felt giving doomguy a face where you can always see him makes him less of a shrunken cthulu and more of a real stronk guy. For example in the previous game i felt that as the game progressed it would get harder, but there would be a point in which your fire power and skill started outgrowning this difficulty progression making you feel badass rather than being told your badass.
-In reference to the one enemy earlier the zelda esk boss and enemy is so out of place with the green eyes counter attack deal. This is by far one of the things i dislike most in this game (not saying there are many things) as they are first off poorly designed as i always hated fighting them. There is a enemy variant in which he chases you all the time and youd have to counter attack. The problem is, this doesn't work when your playing a game in which your always moving and running from enemies because you can't just stop and stand still to counter attack the enemy. This was assuming he was made perfectly too, he by chance was made terribly. whenever i died, it was never because i didn't counter attack him in time, it was because he shot out a projectile or my hit didn't register. I honestly need to wrap this up because i could talk for 70 pages why this guy makes no sense.

Different
- less ammo. This makes sense to me because in doom 2016 ammo upgrade didn't make sense but here they mean something and now it does.
-A lot more ways to upgrade your weapons and suit.
-Siege cannon upgrade is gone so now you actually have to try
-More weak points.
