Banger of a game. Had (and has) some annoying issues with performance and a few questionably balanced items/setups, but is seeing updates that have been ironing those out.Singleplayer had enough content to keep you going for a long time. Tons of secrets, tons of lore, tons of npc quests, tons of dungeons (each with their own themes and gimmicks to enjoy to keep them from going stale). Engaging bossfights with fun mechanics. Oh, and jumping over attacks makes you feel like a god in a way dodge rolling or even parried never can hope to come close to.Multiplayer is great fun with options between coop for bossing, coop for exploring, invading, and dueling. Invading stacks the odds against you by default (1v3 is basically the default) much more than previous titles, but they're still great fun and the extra challenge as an invader is welcome; all the more satisfying when you flatten the host. And everyone's favorite messaging system is of course back with plenty of new word soup possibilities.Definitely pushing 🐐 status, at least in the genre if not in general. With more patches and the fromsoft classic "dlc side or after story content that's somehow better than the base game" it could easily be a 🐐 for many people. As an update: dlc soon tm, so hopefully that really pops when it comes out. PvP got some balance changes and arenas got added, both of which are much appreciated. Arenas can be a bit chaotic but are good fun. Seamless coop mod is a really cool way to play through the game with friends. Randomizer mods are also a classic too if you're looking for a way to mix up the game's progression. All and all, still holds up and cant wait to see what the dlc brings.

Early Access Review
Even in its early state the game is a great time, well worth the price. It's like a mix between borderlands and a rogue lite (Ziggurat might be the best comparison if you've played that). The weapons are varied and fun by base with meaningful & interesting stats tacked on, the goblet character progression system gives you a sort of baseline control over the direction of your run, and the scroll item system adds the unpredictable random spice to the run where you find one that is particularly neat and start playing around it. The permanent progression system between runs is a neat way to get some incremental power sort of like a version of bl3's guardian rank system: noticeable and meaningful but certainly still less important than what an individual run offers you. Toward the bottom of the tree you start seeing some really powerful options, but getting there takes a while and won't hurt the integrity of the core gameplay I dont think. It just provides some more incentive to keep playing and grind out those upgrades.

Gameplay consists of fighting through a couple zones (differnt color styles, enemy types, and room layouts) divided into a few floors (one guaranteed goblet character progression item per floor) divided into rooms (which individually hold enemies & loot). At the end of every zone there's a boss. The enemy targeting is relatively simple, so when you get hit it feels like it's your fault for not properly dodging, but with a wide variety of enemy types each with slightly different ai makes it so situations still call for attention still; overall they feel great to fight and learning how to fight different enemies feels rewarding. In terms of your character, you get your starter weapon, two additional weapons you pick up during a run, and two skills. Currently both characters have grenades as their second skills, but even those grenades feel different to play with since they function slightly differently and have different upgrades (not quite as diverse as borderlands grenades but getting close). The primary skills are vastly different and both are a good time to use. I should also mention that of those two weapons you pick up during a run, you often swap them out constantly as you find straight upgrades or just better options for the situations your facing since each zone has its own parts that are particularly challenging, so you will rarely ever hold one for the entire game (though the option is there to do so if you find one with particularly hot modifiers by spending some coins to keep it up to par with current progression).

Both online and solo work great. I, like most, have enjoyed online more when playing with a private lobby among friends, but the matchmaking is there and works great if you like that more. Multiplayer feels fairly balanced right now compared to single player, even though in MP you get the ability to revive downed teammates along with 1 optional solo revive while in SP you only get that 1 solo revive (which costs a lot of the permanent progression points you've earned for the current run, so it feels like a real choice to revive or not). Singleplayer is a great time too and I've done a number of runs there as well.

There are some translation issues right now but they're minor and still get the idea across just fine.

Overall, great game, and considering the relatively low price, certainly worthwhile even not on sale. To quell some early access fears, even if it sees no updates from here forward, I still think its worth the purchase for the content it has now. With more updates and content, it'll only get better.

Tons of customization for characters/items/classes to let you play each run differently. The UI is simple but works really well and fits the style of the game. I'm a fan of the art, and the music slaps. If youre a fan of building your own characters and like roguelites, look no further.

Have 17 hours dropped so far and see myself racking that up to at least 50 no problem. With future patches, I could easily see myself pushing 1-2 hundred. totally worth the price tag no doubt.

Absolute banger of a game. 10/10

If you've played and enjoyed the first, this is a must have. It's an entirely new experience that still felt incredibly natural to swap to and faithful to the formula that made RoR1 so good. Solo runs can be relaxing on drizzle or a challenge on monsoon, and multiplayer is always a good time both with friends and in quickplay. Every character has interesting, different, and meaningful gameplay. Its fun to both loop and fight the boss. Items make each run feel different and artifacts add a nice layer of customization. Eclipse offers a challenge for those who want it. I never feel forced to play in a certain way.

Plus the modding scene is stellar.

Overall just an incredibly fun game and a great addition to your rogue-lite game rotation.

Can chew through many hours of time, especially if you have friends to keep things fresh with. A variety of options allows you to challenge yourself more or less whenever needed and keeps the game feeling fresh for a long time. An all-time favorite for sure.Risk of Rain returns soon!
