I still don't like Half Life Alyx. The VR wasn't nearly as innovative or impressive as Boneworks, everything about the game could have been done in non-VR except for the God awful hacking puzzles, you dont see anyone making fully working non-VR mods for Boneworks because it simply wouldnt work, they didnt even plan to have smooth movement initially. And the story was a mix between Marvel-esque "humor" and "quirky" characters only to retcon the ending. They lost their best writers and it really shows. Disable the voices and the game gets much more tolerable. Its only saving grace is having pretty models and textures to look at, and having inspired the HL2 VR mods, which are far better because it's just Half Life 2. Alyx would be boring without the novelty of VR but a good game wouldn't need that crutch, and a good VR game would utilize VR such that it'd be unplayable without it. Get it on sale for the novelty or for the mods if anything, but this game does not live up the the standards that Valve set with Half Life 2.

Have something as basic as a search feature for avatars? No, just add anti cheat so I can't even mod in something as basic as a search feature for avatars.

Did I really only play this game for 6 hours? It feels like three times that long. The game isn't bad, in fact it's very well polished. But there's only so much slow mo shooting galleries I can run through before it gets old. Even the story, which had me hooked initially, had so many double and triple crosses that it stopped being interesting and just became tedious. This game is aggressively competent. That's not the worst thing a game can be, but it overstays its welcome real quick in a way the older games didn't.

The monetization is terrible, I know that's the standard now but that doesn't make it any better. To be fair the fools at 343 give you the angry and happy kitty decals for free with plenty of color presets so I have no need to spend money on this game.

Classic build engine game with a few more bells and whistles to keep it fresh.

It's Half-Life. Play it and then go play Black Mesa.
